If its the engine I remember, there's a sort of box replacing the distributor containing the 90 degree gears turning the shafts, running up to more bevel gears driving cams...kinda like Crosley, only from original cam location instead of crank. Could not find my way to right pic--the engine I'm thinking of is pictured in some of the 1952 vintage flathead books, Huntington or Fisher.

It was high production...used in a 4-p***enger off road vehicle, mostly in export applications in European and later Korean markets. Later served as the basis for the early startup of the Israeli vehicle industry... Really.
