Ok, against all of my pleading, my buddy is putting a Ford motor in his T roadster. Now I'm a Chevy guy, so I'm not a lot of help to him when it comes to what to get pulleys off of that will fit his motor. He's running an 87' 302. Anything special about the pulleys for the crank and water pump, or are Ford's as universal as Chevy's. Thanks in advance for the help. Craig
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. and more reasons to build Ford tough with Chevy stuff. Craig
What, I'm the authority on SBF's now? I'm not at all. I'm fortunate that a own a whole bunch of pulleys and I can just find the one I need, but I could not tell you for what year, they were made for. But I recommend calling Owens Salvage (Alliance Vendor) they know their stuff and probably have what you need and ship it to you with lightning speed. BTW: In the end it's all worth it, Fords belong in Fords. But I would put a Ford motor in a Chevy, "if" I had one.
Since its a 87 motor just find the pulleys and alt brackets off a 80s crown vic and you can just run the alternator with that set up,the alternator bracket is a bulky aluminum piece but it can be trimmed some to look better. The older non powersteering pulleys from the 70s would be better but they are harder to find, they are usually in trucks since p/s was optional and most cars came with it. Pulleys from a 351-C will work too and if a truck with a 351-M/400 is found without p/s those pulleys might work too. Jeff
BIG BLOCK FORD MOTHERFUCKER! trust me Chris, Ballbraker has the same issues when putting the SBF into his `48 that's why it isnt done yet.
fords suck when your missing something from the front. I bought a truck that had a 460 and didnt have brackets or anything and it was a huge pain in the ass trying to chase the stuff down. I would say if you cant find pulleys get a junk motor you can steal everything from.
If that '87 5.0 is out of a Mustang or an F150 it has a reverse rotation water pump. If it's out of a Crown or Lincoln or Mercury Grand Marquis it should have a standard rotation water pump. Easy to switch to which ever one you need. If he wants v-belts he can do that and if he want's a serpentine belt he can do that. What can you tell us about it's doner vehicle? What was it? Is he running any accesories other than an alternator?
There was no doner car. He picked up an 87 short block and put on some windsor heads? I'll call Owens and see wassupp. Thanks all for the help. Craig
well that makes it all the more importent to know what he is workign with. Let us know what he has and I'm sure we can help fill in the blanks.
