could of had a boat like this about 8 yrs ago for 75 bux, wish i wouldn't p***ed on it

 

he wants 600.00 . I'm going to offer him 250.00 for it. If I get it sweet if not, no big deal.

I read an article about a guy down here in Fla. that restores old boats,,his next project is one of those. He says they are very rare,,if you can get it for $600.00 you need to grab it.

 

I would put '61 Comet tail lights on it and when you are towing it to the water, it would sure confuse the guy behind you.....

im not really a "boat guy" but i like that one. what is it? what kind of drive set up would you normally put on it too? id go as high as the guy would want for it myself. youre not losing much really and could most likely sell it for at least what you have in it on here perhaps.

 

There used to be one that looks similar sitting in a garage without a door in a alley somewhere in town,I wish I could remember where it was at as I would like to try to buy it. Jeff

 

Give Cl***icfins here on the HAMB a shout, he restores these old boats. He might be able to give you some insight about this boat.

 

Look for cracs in the keel its a very weak point on old glas boats

I like the old wooden boats, but that thing is pretty cool too. If you find out what it is, post it on this thread. I'm curious who makes it.

Couldn't agree more. Better get some prices on outboard motors as well. If I did a boat, it would be an old wooden CrisCraft runabout with inboard engine. This thing could end up just as worthless after you've finished, so don't do it for "investment" purposes, do it because you want to own and drive it. Remember, you're taking on someone else's headache!!

 

Didn't I last see a couple guys in tights and capes driving that thing?

they used wood under the fibergl*** for stregth in the transom and for stringers in the bottom check for soft spots .if there are any you got a tough repair.

You beat me to it,....... without question, the easyest way to loose money without even trying.

 

Cool boat, I like how far back the windshield is set. Check the transom (where the motor goes) for flexing, look in where the drain plug goes and see if it's solid or mushy. Stand in the boat make sure the floor doesn't flex too much. Old boats are cool, but can be alot of work to be sea worthy. The outboard will probably be 2-3x the cost of the boat for vintage, and alot more for new.

That's a cool looking hull. Looks like the transom has been regl***ed so find out how it was repaired. Some guys will gl*** over bad wood. If he has already replaced the wood and then gl***ed it you should be good to go. Don't think that building this boat is going to be cheap. Boats are expensive and require contant maintinance. You'll have to store it inside too if you want to keep the finish looking good. Good luck, looks like it would be alot of fun at the lake and would diffinently draw a crowd at the boat ramp. Oh, don't use the old cable/pulley system, get a no feedback steering cable for safety. Over and out.
