Bob asked me to come up to Beaver Springs to see how things ran at their biggest show so I could get a feel for the Jalopy Showdown Drags in Sept. The place is run so laid back...we're gonna' have a great show!
E.J. is gonna bring this and two other cars to the show...I dig this thing!

One of my highlights of the day was seeing Bud Faubel(hemi honker) make a p*** in his old car now owned by a car collector. Bud showed that thing no mercy blowing the trim molding off and leaving alittle oil at the top end of the track. This was my first time at this event, it's on my don't not miss list for next year. I still smell like burnt rubber and racing fuel.
Larry, did you see if Linda Vaughn is available for the showdown drags.

the Beaver is awesome...always...got to talk to Ohio George too...Bud's p*** was cool, as well as the Z-11 (wow$$$) great times! That AMC in the pic above is the Kenosha Killer, belongs to a friend, George Gudat...he'll be happy y'all snapped a shot of him, he went out first round...death by red bulb, I think...The E.C. G***ers were tearing it up...can't wait until next year.

The fat *** in the lime green shirt and boonie hat taking pics at the starting line was me. :)

Year One starting sponsoring the race this year, so I was there "working." Bwahahahahahaha!

What a freakin' great show! I can't wait for next year, and I'm declaring now, in public, right here that I will have my g***er there running next year!!!!!

Bud Fauble not only showed the car no mercy by blowing off the wheel moldings, he ran an 11 second p***, which is probably what the thing ran back in the day, and he blew the trans--that was the oil on the top end.

I hope I can climb into an old Super Stocker and bust off a mid-11 when I'm 78 years old. Even if I am wearing a light blue polyester suit with a big red carnation on the lapel!

Bud Fauble for president!! He's cool.

  18. We talked to Mr. Fauble at the resturant on the way out, and mentioned how cool that p*** was. He said the car hadn't any 3rd gear, and the smoke was from a freeze plug blowing out of the block.
He is the "man" of the day!

On behalf of Beaver Bob and myself, we hope that everyone enjoyed the Nostalgia Nationals. We try very hard each year to improve on the previous years event. This year we made drastic changes to the spectator parking and camping area to streamline that process and expand those areas which were rapidly filling up in the past, due to the increasing attendance at the event. Nostalgia is alive and well at BSD.

We are really looking forward to the September Jalopy Showdown drags at the Beaver. I hope to have my car back together by then, since I will be taking it apart to make dramatic improvements to it, now that the Nostalgia Nats are over. My car was the primer gray 28 highboy roadster with wide whites that was being driven around by Spike to help him get around easier in covering the event for his magazine.

During the Saturday test and tune session, I flag started cars for an hour to practice for the big event and felt fine on Sunday. But come Monday, I was really sore in the legs and beat after "the big event." I guess I may have been jumping a bit higher and harder than I thought I was at the time or just may getting older than I feel and sound.

We try very hard to put on a good show and hope that our efforts show. We will be working just as hard to make the first Jalopy Showdown Drags an event that folks will not want to miss year after year. The wheels are already in motion about the many different ways the Sept event may be able to go in the future if it is well received. It has been planned on a weekend that allows for folks to stay over into Sunday and can expand into a Sat day and evening type show or into a Sat & Sun event if there is enough interest to support that type of expansion.

So if you like the Latimore event, your certain to like the September event as well. Its very tough to not like making a fast paced p*** down the drag strip. We feel very fortunate that Spike was able to put us in touch with ScaryLarry to team up to put on a fall show of the same caliber.

Looking forward to seeing and meeting you at the September Jalopy Showdown Drags!

PS. My 28 roadster, powered by an all stock 78 chevy 350 with 350 atuo trans, ran 11:03 @ 63MPH in the 1/8th mile on Friday evening. We wanted a ball park idea of how fast cars might be running at the event. I think the ET break requiring a roll bar is 8:50. If that is the bench mark, most cars probably will not need such a tech item, but do remember to bring a helmet and leather jacket if you are running an open bodied car regardless of ET. See in Sept!

Welcome Bill! Glad to see you posting here. I'm more than happy to support a track that is as perfect as yours. Don't change a thing! Hope all you HAMBers like it as well!

Oh, and thanks again for use of the roadster. It looks great with the bias plys and steelies. I got a million questions about it while out cruising. I told Jacconna that I stole it..I think he believes me!
