I've used POR15 sealer successfully 3-4 times and we have ethanol in our Minnesota gas. This spring I used another brand of sealer; transparent, blue and smells like airplane glue. It didn't hold up well. Can't be sure ethanol was the problem though, but I wouldn't use it again.
Ethanol won't (most probably...can't be definitive) affect gas tank sealer if the sealer is put on correctly. I use KBS coatings products and sell gas tank sealer for all types of vehicles and no reports of issues with any type of gas.
Got any buddies in the aircraft repair business? I have 2 gas tanks coated with "FR" primer, and they are holding up well. FR means fluid resistant. These tanks are 3-5 years old since cleaned and coated, and have never seen any signs of primer or discoloration in the fuel,as evidenced by regular inspections of a gl*** bodied fuel filter. One of the tanks sat for 3 years with fuel, removed said old **** and added fresh, and still no problems. Not predominantly "gasohol" or "e-85",but they have held it in the past. Primer made by"DeSoto coatings" or DeSoto Aerospace coatings" or something like that. The stuff I was was "out of date",as in had exceeded it's shelf life.
D 32, I had a tank cleaned at the local radiator shop here in town and agreed to have them seal it as we discussed the services I wanted. After I got home an talking to my buddies, they asked me if it was alcohol safe since gasoline with alcohol is going to be widely available here in NC next year. I called the shop and asked these questions and the product they use (a red rubberlike coating, it wasn't cheap) was not guaranteed against alcohol. I have used the US Fuel tank sealer from Por-15 in the past (5 years in the tank with no trouble) and called to ask its alcohol resistance. They guaranteed it would work and not break down, so I bought more of it and sealed the tank with it. I do not have the vehicle on the road yet but suspect it will last as well as there other products. Hope this helps........................good luck.
