I'm gonna sound stupid here but I think I might like to build one when I get my Modified and F100 builds driveable. Do most guys skin their own body or buy something pre made? Is there somewhere I can get more info on building one? I will be at the HAMB Drags in August to check this type of stuff out for sure.

I don't know what most guys do, but I opted to build my own body. It's been a very educational experience - I highly reccomend it, however it did delay the completion by a LONG time for me.

  6. What et does it turn? I like it. As far as bodies go, I don't see how you could buy a pre fabbed one, since all cars are different. Different widths, engine location, etc. I see some pre fabbed fibergl*** ones on ebay once in a while, but you would have to modify em.

I normally do my own sheet metal work, but I was just looking for an easy way out in case I want to build one for 2008 HAMB drags and end up down to the wire needing a body.

The great domino effect of hot rodding...I just bought a crate engine for my '62 Suburban...that has the original 283 block and later heads...the '62 truck blocks are supposed to be thicker wall than later 283s...which will eventuall get rebuilt with a set of 13:1 pistons, heads to be determined, and a 2x4 intake or injection...and dropped into a digger just like yours...

    I LOVE your dragster.

When I get Rodan finished I am going to get all this tubing and parts up off the floor. When I was in Pamona a couple years ago I saw this car. zoom_G1800809.jpg I liked the way the frame was built.

This style of digger is what I would build. I don't think I will need 4 engines or 4 wheel drive...but I use to build a killer 292 back in the day. I have a 3 speed ****** out of a 68 chevy pu and a blanket for it.

I like to have a winter project. This might be the ticket. Sam said I might be able to get little Sammy to drive it for me...so I just need a reason to get on the floor and draw the thing out in chalk and start measuring the angles and lengths of tubing. Who knows....maybe.....

Talk to Sam...maybe he would rent you his ch***is jig long enough to fab it up...that's what I will do. Maybe we could all help each other and build three of them at once...I've seen it happen. Count me in!!!

I want one of these diggers some day. They seem so cool to me. I've got a Flathead that I think would be neat in one. It's nice to know that there are some locals that want one too. :D

What I am planning is more along the lines of a cross between a dragmaster dart and a K-88.

  23. Got a pic of each for those of us not in the know?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Thanks for posting those Root. I like the first one a little better, but I think a cross between the two would be almost dead on for a perfect look.

The second style are the ones I'v always loved, short and squirelly lookin, and a little wider for that "beefy" look, kinda how I like a chopper to look too. That is the K88 right?

I'm no historian but I believe the one on the right(The Olds) is a K-88 Ch***is research frame.

    Here's some more pics.

    roothawg,
the one on the right with the olds is a K-88 (88"wb) the one undernieth it is a TE-440 (Top Eliminator/440 yards=1/4 mile) the te-440 being the earlier model (mid to late 50's) then the k-88 (late 50's early 60's), both by scotty fenn.
chasis research (fenn) and pat bilbo (lyndwood welding) were fierce compe***iors for selling short wheel base ch***is. I own this lyndwood "eliminator II 98" wb ch***is. it's a 1958 ch***is restored to circa 1962-63 era.

FIRST PIC IS ORIGINAL RAIL IN '64 AT ATCO IN NJ AND SECOND PIC IS LAST YEAR IN DRIVEWAY.
