I wear my same Chucks or steel toe Boots workin on the car or going out to dinner... is that Wrong

But i do know.... SANDLES ARE FOR HIPPIES & YUPPIES ... Wait till one you guys drops an axle, trans case, or somthing else on yer lil piggies.

I've bee wearing MechanixWare. They are not cheap, but are very comfy. Especilly on concrete floors all day. they are not heavy and will last about a year in the shop being worn all day every day. Impervious to solvents, grease and oil. to me you can't beat them.

Learned that the hard way! :(
Dropped an engine block on my left big toe, wearing runners; nail gone. (never grew back)

    Now I wear Dakotas, - sold by Red Wing - steel toe with a puncture proof sole, low cut, semi dress;
IN the shop AND OUT to dinner.
(give em' a bit of shoe polish if I'm wearing my best suit!!) :)

For those who "kneel" a lot; you can now get knee pads that are "gel filled"; MUCH easier on the ole' arthritic knees! (talk to any roofer!)

  5. i guess I'd rather not look like a total slob when I'm at work.

I wear the same "shoes" in my garage that I wear in the office at work. Steel toe boots. Get a pait that fits properly and has good arch support and they can be as comfortable as anything else.

  11. If I am working by myself or with someone I really trust like my girl or my Dad I wear flip-flops, whether I'm welding or not. If there is a lot going on in the shop I will put on shoes, I am pretty sure that I wont drop something on my own toes but it's all the other idiots that I call friends that I worry about (HAHA). When welding in tenis shoes the sparks go right through the tops and then are stuck in with your foot but when welding in flip-flops you can easily shake the hot sparks out. However if I am stick welding I do put on boots, slag sticks to the skin.

  12. These are comfy and go with most any outfit.

    Thanks again Denise:D

  13. A good closed toe leather shoe when doing light stuff but steel toed boots are the order of the day for anything heavier than a large pair of vise grips.

I worked in a machine shop for 14 years and saw many chips in the concrete where accidents happen. I had a 20" lathe chuck hit the floor when the lift cable parted The chunk of concrete it knocked out was big enough to require patching the floor.

I like my toes just where God put them thank you very much.

Nike Air running shoes, with 300lbs pounding on them and the concrete, I go for comfort. I used to wear the slip on prison issue shoes. If welding, then I wear the work boots.

Go to a cop uniform store and check out cop foot wear. Good choice are "Rockys". Durable, water proof, pretty impervious to anything and light like a tennis shoe.

    That's funny!

A whole lotta people talking about comfortable work footwear in the middle of the day while they're sitting down in front of a computer.

1/2 of us should be on our feet doing something else right now.

    Hmmm.

Is everyone taking a long lunch?

As for me - sears workshoes. Black. Hides dirt.

I wear these Sperry top siders and Nike air. I only buy them if they are on sale and check several pairs in my size to get some that are soft, smooth and comfortable on the inside.
Also shoes need to bend and fold in the right place and not across the top of the toes, otherwise they rub when kneeling and walking and are miserable. I've found this can happen with one shoe and not another of the same kind of shoe, so I try on several of the same shoe. Wife won't even go shoe shopping with me because she says I "try on more shoes than a woman"...

I can usually get the Sperry's on sale for around $45 at West Marine.

I worry more about singing the hair on my usually bare belly than embers in my shoes anyway

Wear steel toe shoes and what happened to me won't happen to you. I had a motor tip over onto my toes. One was crushed and three others were broken. The crushed one was amputated.

Was a mechanic at a dealership for many years, always wore Doc Martins cushion soled boots with steel toe caps. These are the best, last forever and are cheap!

If I'm doing any metalwork, I'm a big believer in using my old steel toe workboots I've had since my Evil Empire days (Halliburton). I've already exceeded my lifetime quota for amount of slag that rolls down the inside of my shoe lodging itself between my toes.... no more!

I also tend to make huge ugly messes and drop lots of crap, so might as well play it safe.

I like to wear a nice Patten leather Pump unless I am welding then I would wear 6" Spiked heels to knock of the slag with.

After about 60 years standing on concrete and one back surgery.
I look for 1 . crepe soles. They're easiest on your back 2.. light weight. I dont care who makes em'
The ones I found most recently are "Lugz"

  30. Steel toe Red Wings. All the time in the shop, sometimes to the store and everywhere else. If it's formal, I may oil and buff them if I'm feeling all fancy and such.
