Actually before that even.Bella Berenyi,th guy who invented the safety cell in modern cars invented the concept in 1928 ..and VW had to pay him a royalty from the 70's.
Another guy ,Checz ,Hans Lewinka designed the first vehicles well before the fuckin nazis stole his idea ,and again VW had to pay out Tatra because of design theft.
    T77 from the late 1920's.

  4. What I mean, is the first Porsche-built cars, that have a striking resemblance to the VW Bug. They appeared (without back windows, and with suicide doors, and seperate headlights that weren't flared into the fenders) in 1933.
Here's an interesting story, for automotive historians-
After WW2, Ernest Breech, a Bigwig with the Ford Motor Company, was sent from Dearborn to Wolfsburg, Germany, because FoMoCo had been offered the entire VW plant, all the machinery, designs, everything, for free, just take it and do something with it... Mr. Breech went and toured the factory, and went back to Dearborn, to report to Henry Ford. When asked what he thought about the manufacturing plant, Mr Breech replied-

"Mr Ford, I don't think what we are being offered here is worth a damn"

I know some of you will still agree with that assessment, but still, that
wasn't the best business decision in the history of the American Automobile...

My ol' lady just bought herself a '59 Edsel for her first project. Pretty solid, yet far enough gone that she'll have to learn every aspect of auto work to get her finished.
