legnth of the steering shaft is longer on the big trucks but can be cut down with ease just put a .5 slug in and drill a few holes for plug welds along with welding the seem.
I am not real sure, but I gave a friend of mine a box off an old F4 cab for the F1 he was building. He said the ratio in the box was different and the F4 would turn quicker or something like that. Anyway, he seemed happy as hell to get the box for free.
Damn good question since I was wondering the same thing today when I found another big truck sitting.
I have the whole set-up, column box and axle with spindles....Out of an F-6 if some body wants the Axle come get it..., but what do I have to do to use my F-6 column and box in a Rod?????
Ok I've been around for a while, several machine, and body shops, but what do you mean by .5 slug and plug weld...where are you talking .... Are you talking 1/2" solid stock?Very interested in how to do this????????If the shaft is longer and I gotta cut it down what am I cutting it down too? and what am I welding the "slug" to... Sorry for being so stupid, but what is clear to you is clear as mud to me... just cant picture it, sorry, please help....
slug is for the inside of the steering shaft when you cut it down to the legnth that you need. plug welds are for when you drill holes in the shaft and weld to the slug.
I have an F1 steering box and column that I recently removed from my F1. I intend to use a different (newer) column on my rebuild. If you need measurements like the length of the steering shaft, etc, let me know and I'll measure and give you the results.
