O.K. I've got alot of posts up here lately and if I get this it'll make project number 3 . I got an offer to trade my $500 tool box for a 1956 Ford F250 3/4ton and of course I took it , just have to go pick the truck up, been sitting for like 27 years. I'm looking for input as to the best way to lower, if the spindles have the same measurements as a 1/2 ton in the kingpin area and lookin for pics if anyone has some of the lowered 53-56 ford truck with the 8ft bed, I can find lots of them with 6ft beds lowered but haven't seen one long bed lowered. I tried doing up a rendering but my skills with my wanna be photoshop arent't very good yet. And If anyone is going to suggest it, NO I DON"T WANT TO CONVERT TO 1/2 TON, I want something old yet different than everyone else.
I am 99% sure that the only difference between the F-100 and F-250 is axles and hubs and of course spring rate. What this means is that the suspension parts made for 53-56 F-100's will work on your truck. There are mono-leafs and reversed eye springs made brand new for these trucks. Check with Mid Fifty F-100 parts: http://www.midfifty.com/ I boght a reversed eye "short stack" for my '56 panel from them but haven't installed them yet.. Tracy
If i remember right, the REAR axle & spindles out are different on 3/4 Ton. Front Axle is the same as 1/2 ton & the Spring configuration is the same BUT Spring is heavier spring rate. To be Honest, if you want to lower it you should convert to 1/2 ton parts & short bed. I have a friend who has a '54 3/4 ton long bed, It was "semi Hot Rodded" by a plumber back in the early 60s, he restored it back to the plumbers Hot Rod, has exhaust stacks, some extra chrome & an Olds rocket mated to the original granny 4spd. Very cool work truck, But the long bed 3/4 ton will not look good lowered... its a Work truck, Embrace it for what it is I have a '55 F~350 1 ton Dually flatbed .... love it for what it is, & to be Honest, I get as many people checking it out & talking to me about it as i do with my Chopped 1/2ton '55 F~100
Thanks didgeytrucker, cool lookin 62 you got there, I've got a 63 F100 I'm building into a g***er. Thanks to you also DE SOTO, I thought everything was the same except spindles out and the springs but wasn't absolutely sure and it will get worked, I just want to go lower, it will be used to tow my 63 F100, to track and shows, my boat to the lake, and a parts chaser that is different than everyone else's. Now, anyone got Pics or can Photoshop one, About 3" lower and a suede blue or metallic blue? PLEASE?
Anybody, Pics, Photoshop, Ideas? Oh yeah, need to find a trailer to borrow to get it home, or someone with truck and trailer to tow it, If yer in Southeast, Wichita, Kansas area and would help a young guy out give me a holler thanks.
