Did you guys end up running all the leaves in your rear spring pack? How does it ride? How much did your spring flatten out? Running into clearance issues with some suspensions stuff (spring ahead of axle). I'm hoping that the spring will compress a couple inches and flatten out with the weight on it. I think the weight of a coupe with a heavier modified frame ought to be comparable to my situation. I will post pics later so you guys can see what's happening.
I have both, Spring behind on my sport coupe & spring in front on my daughters '27 T raodster pick up. Had some issues on the T, had to run Lincoln radious rods for a sharper angle (they are shorter than fords) ...
Did you run the pack stock or pull a couple leaves out on either the Sprt. Coupe or the '27?? I'm runnin' a 4-bar setup with the spring in front of the axle and squeezed between the links. Hits the bottom side of the top link right now. Misjudged the shape of the spring a bit. Thinkin' maybe reversing the eyes on the spring may do the trick to get the clearance I need. Any good spring shops close to the Huntington area?
Have the full spring pack on my 30....rides like a model A. Theres not much wieght on a model a body to bend much of any thing. Love my ride...but I pay the price on a long run. I really need extra wieght in the rear to keep the reend in place as I hit freeway speeds. Took it to Paso drive was great but my body had a price to pay.
I have 5 in the T, & I think 5 or 6 in the sport coupe ... then a small stack of cut short ones on top so the U~Bolt tighten. My Sport Coupe rides nice, no reason to run a full stack... To stiff for a hot rod. A reverse eye spring will solve the clearance problem i am sure, youll gain about 2 inches clearance. Both mine have Stock spring eyes, "T" has a torque tube & the Coupe has triangulated ladder bar set up.
Thanks for the info! Maybe I'll drop a couple leaves out of there then. Two of us stood on top of it (combined weight of about 380), jumped up and down and it didn't BUDGE! Would ride softer with less leaves and the stiffer military lever shocks I'm running will probably keep things under control pretty well.
Haven't mounted it up under there yet and put the weight on it, so they're straight out right now. I'm hoping the will go to 45 when I get the weight on it. Have a feeling it will be shy.
Okay... I found a source to flip my spring eyes over... (Deaver in Santa Ana). That will get me a little bit. Now... next question. If I find myself removing spings, should I be removing upper or lower springs? Was thinking about taking the spring out that's right on top of the main leaf. Bad idea? Should I start from the top and work down, spacing as I go?
