Went to the Slaton car show. Its usually one of the best in the Lubbock area. I tried to get some pics of the more traditional rods to put on here but theres not a big following for that in my area. I'm trying to convert as many as I can! The first one is my coupe and our own DannyK's truck. Thats him beside it. We both got trophies FWIW.
[IMG]I volenteered for a NSRA inspection

    And heres the results!

Most traditional rod there wasnt even in the show

Our own Bill Morgan with his sweet GTO. It was a trophy winner

Cool 49 Panel with all hand controls and wheel chair ramp in the back. Another winner.

This super nice mustang belongs to Billy, another hamber. He's a lurker on here, maybe he'll break down and do an into now!

Yeah we got a few of these too!

  2. I wish I could have made it. It rained most of the day here in Midland on Saturday. Maybe the rain stayed here instead of ruining the show in Slaton. It looks like there was a good turnout. I'm glad you guys were rewarded for your effort with trophies. We are gonna have another gathering at the Texas burger in August but I don't have the date yet. Also there is a show and shine sponsored by an investment banker on Aug. 11th here in Midland - no judging. I will get more details if anyone is interested.

I totally forgot that was this weekend! Oh well I couldn't make it anyway, I got the bumper off, tailights out, and the car half wet-sanded. So I'm grounded.

LOVE the new flames, it really made your car jump out!

Wow... there's more in Slaton than I remembered. Looks like a nice show!

Was there a maroon Model A sport coupe with a black top and an early hemi there, by any chance?

Edit: Holy crap... I see it right there in Bill Morgan's pic (behind the GTO). I'll have to let Dad know I have spies EVERYWHERE. haha

Double Edit: The redshirt you inspected with needs to be out finding me a hemi, not standing around inspecting cars all weekend. ha ha

I may have gotten a pic of the Model A to which you refer. I cant get into my photo bucket album here at work right now but as soon as I can I'll see if I captured it. Would it by chance have a set if aluminum aftermarket heads on it. The one I saw did. So when/why did you excape from Slaton. Ive only been hanging around here about 15 years. I actually live out in the cotton fields between slaton and Acuff.

I didn't see it in the album, but yeah - his is aluminum headed, has some small black flame treatments around it. What I was saying earlier was in your second picture where you're getting inspected.... the "red shirt" looking at your car is my dad, who needs to be out finding me a hemi for the Austin. haha

In the other pic with the GTO, I can just make out the back of Dad's car behind the GTO.

We're originally from Hereford. Most of my family still lives there but I'm stuck up here in Indy with these nutcases :D Mostly what I remember of Slaton was passing by. ;)

    Small world ain't it?

And getting smaller every day thanks to the HAMB. So that was your dad huh? cool! He is a nice guy. We talked for a while. When they asked me if I had a fire extinguisher I held up a 1/2 liter bottle of water. When asked what I was going to do when it was gone I replied 'after drinking all that I'll just piss on it to put it out!' He checked it off :D

Yepper, one and the same. Got tired of the easter egg look, besides it had major road rash in the form of rock chips and the like. I freaked a budy out at the car show, I found some overspray on the black from painting the flames and got out a can of satin black spray paint and touched it up on the spot! Your not Deb's brother are ya? If ya are we'll sent her a bill for the beer after all the parts I bought from her.

There were some great cars there. I drove the yellow and white 56 bel air. Unfortunatly I was parked next to the meticulously restored 70 Challenger but left with a trophy so its all good. Ill look for some pics.

    Hey guys,
That's my '51 Merc! It now resides in Weatherford, TX along with my unrestored Model A coupe.

The Model A is the same one my dad drove to HS in 1935, 36, 37... been in the family a long long time!

The Merc is now down for an engine swap... from Cad 500 to LS1-5.3 Hope to have it going by Goodguys at Texas Motor Speedway.
