I've been thinking about getting some narrower front tires or new wheels for my truck. I currently have a 15x7 with a 255/60/15 in the front and they are too wide! I'd like to buy some narrower wheels, but right now two tires would be much better than new wheels and tires. I can't decide if a 205/75/15 would be too narrow and look funny on a 15x7 wheel or not. Anyone run this combo or a very similar one? Pictures or other tire sizes would be of great help.

    Thanks,

205/75R15 would be fine on the front. About 27 inches tall, probably about 5.5-6 inches of tread. Will be a good fit on a seven inch wheel.

a 205/75 would be quite skinny and might look a bit funny on that wide of a wheel.
It's .2 of an inch taller though.
a 215/70 would fit the wheel better and is .1 shorter

Its all about tire bulge in my opinion. A 205 wont look bad on a 7" wheel if the tire bulge on the sidewall is close to what is on the back. If they are all stretched a bit it looks fine but it the back tires are wide for the wheel it wont look right. Whats on the back?

I guess I should have added that. I have a 275/60/15 on an 8 inch wide wheel. To me, it's has about the perfect look. Something similar in the front would be great. I agree about the tire bulge, too much or not enough just doesn't look right. To me, the 255/60 is on the verge of having too much bulge, especially for the front. Thanks for the input.

Tell me if I'm re-stating the obvious or totally wrong.
Tire sizes as I understand work like this...
-the tread width is the first number in milimeters
-the second number is the aspect ratio and can be translated as the percentage of the width that the tire's sidewall is tall.
For example a 205/50 is 102.5 mm tall

You are correct. But 102.5 is only the sidewall so you have add that twice and add the rim dia. to get the overall height.

    (102.5mm is 4.035 in)

I'm not sure but I did find this chart while surfing around. If I'm reading it correctly a G78-15 is similar to a 215/75 or 225/70. This would be pretty close to what Phat56 suggested, I think. Thanks a lot.

205/75 look good on a 7 in rim. Not much bulge at all. Kindav tall and skinny but not that skinny.

    215/75 might even look better.

I'll vote for 215/75 too - I've seen some 205's look too narrow on 7". Trouble is, tires vary so much - different shapes look so much better/worse than others. That's why the BFG 225/70 R15 has been out of stock for 6 months now..

I understand you on the sizes varying so much. Thanks for the input as well.

  19. Well, mine are 205/75 x 15 on 5" wide steelies, backs are 235/75 on 8's. Course I'm running caps and trim rings

On my F-1 I have 195-70 x14 front and 285-70 x15 rear. Front wheels are 14X6 rears 15X10. I like the big and little look. Truck sits level about 3 inches off the ground..........OLDBEET

I love the big and little look. I know I really can't do that with a 7 inch wide wheel, but if I can get the illusion of it, I'd be happy. Thanks.
