So a friend of mine comes to me and says, "Hey, help me paint my car" right after he buys it. The paint looks decent from a distance, but upon sanding, I find it needs LOTS of love, which I have been doing... The green was pwwling in many spots, and the shady body work was showing through. BElow is the day after he bought her... And after alittle sanding, and some temporary priming, this is what we have for now... All the chrome is still in great shape, however the hood and trunk pieces are being redone in a brushed aluminum. The silver on the top half of the car will stay, and the lower half will be done in Hotrod Flatz Black (http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/hrf201.aspx). From what I understand, the PBR cans will be replaced with new ones as needed... Anybody around the Virginia Beach area interested in doing alittle sheet metal work, across the rear? Seems to be the only "bad" spot. Amazingly, the rest of the car is in pretty decent shape considering the ****py body work that was done in the past... Anyhoo, this is my project for now. Should be done by the end of August. Hope you enjoyed... I will try to keep this updated if ya'll wish...
Personally....(now it aint my car mind you) but why are you going to be a follower (with the flat black paint....hell I'm guilty but I put it on to make it one color while I do my bodywork....its getting ready to get gloss as we speak) I would paint it that same color green with a pearl or flake added.... everyone and their dog has flat black...you want to be the dog? (just my take, I like the green, just think it could be ****ed up a bit)
I second that. Not to bash the flat black idea, but the green would look pretty cool. I think there was a powder blue that Chevy used around that time that looks awesome. It's your project, you could do it up in purple with green flames for all I care, but a lot of otherwise really nice cars fall short when done in flat black. I just want to see some more color out there!
I agree with the green, however, it's not mine. Not my decision. The green that is on there now is a flake, and is totally messed up. The body work done before was horrible, and the paint did not stick to about 1/4 of the car. He is thinking of glossing the black eventually, but I commend him for using actual paint, and not black primer... Besides, it's a budget job. I'm donating all my time for free, and he's buying the supplies, and beer of course...
