does anyone remember this movie ? starring a very young don johnson, and nick nolte. a killer 57 chevy, and some movie magic make this car one of the baddest around. here's a link to a clip on youtube. i have 12 clips from this movie on my youtube page. the clips are in reverse order as they happen in the movie...this one is the first...the very beginning of the movie. i recorded these with my digital camera, right off the t.v. screen (because it's a vhs movie) and they didn't come out too bad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0GREN1nmYU
The first one was called "Macon County Line". Don't know if it had those guys in the first one though.
i moved the videos around, so they shoudl come up in the correct order now. macon county line did not have don johnson and nick nolte in it as far as i can remember.
I didnt see the clips, but a friend of mine owns the macon county 57plus a couple hundred more tri five chevys in diffrent stages of repair or disrepair.
One of those two horrible films used a 49 or 50 Chrysler Town & Country Con vertible (the wooden ones!) as the Car Star.
sorry, i deleted them, and re loaded them in the correct order....i forgot to post the new link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMx54hggmsI "isn't that the pop hot rodding project X car?" no, the project x 57 was used in hollywood knights, and it was a 2 door post...this 57 is a 2 door hardtop.
Used to watch those movies when I was a teenager. Sunday night double features, sometimes played with 2 Lane Blacktop. We'd come home with a few lobby posters.
Saw both of them when they first came out. The first was a better story, and it was directed by "Jethro Bodine", Max Baer. Not as much cool car stuff in it. "Return" was a bit better for car stuff, but awfully stupid. Crummy story, acting was poor, even the 57 was a piece of ****...ugly with no side trim. I guess the "magic ****on" was an early use of nitrous? Car guys back then didn't think much of that plot device. Funny watching it, as you see the car in good condition, then it gets bashed up, then you see it nice again, then bashed up, then nice.... And it smoked like a chimney!
beetlejuice 55, at the time that "return to macon county line" was filmed, i owned a green 54 gmc suburban. that suburban is shown driving down a country road in the film. the movie was filmed a couple of counties over from where i live. not a very good movie, but i loved seeing my gmc in the movie. dan
The film showed at cinemas here in the UK as 'Highway Girl' I'm sure back in the early/mid seventies. Remember laughing about the magic ****on as I hadn't heard of nitrous at the time! When it showed many years later on tv it was called 'Return to Macon County'.
the "magic ****on" as a couple of you have called it was not for a "nitrous" set up. it was supposed to be an injector set up that don johnson "harley" built for the motor. hell yeah, that car smoked like a frieght train, and in a couple scenes, you can see that it has single exhaust. then in other scenes, you can clearly see that it has "cheater" pipes(exiting in front of the rear wheels). then again, when they race the black ford, it has dual exhaust, exiting at the bumper, with chrome tips. even the rear tire sizes change from scene to scene. you can clearly see bondo in the rocker panels and rear 1/4 panels of a coiple scenes. what really cracks me up, is that this movie is supposed to take place in 1958...so that 57 would have been a 1 year old car. and if you listen closely...don johnson says that it runs the 1/4 in 8.7 seconds. i don't think that would have been possible in 1958. AND if it was that quick, why was it neck & neck with a stock 4 door flat head powered ford ? he had to use the injector to beat the ford. yep, it's a goofy *** movie, but still pretty cool i guess.
