Thought I'd ask,....I'm looking for one of the old hand fule tank pressurizers/primers. I see speedway makes a billet one, but there's no way I'm paying for a billet piece of **** on an old pre-wwii car!

I was wondering if anyone still makes them, if so who? If not, was wondering if anyone had one that was in good solid usable condition or rebuilt that can be readily used? Thanks for your time guys!

I have an old, small, br*** fire extinguisher that has a handle that you pump to pressurize it.....
I wonder if that'd work in your application??? I see 'em at swapmeets all the time cheap.....

the billett one speedway sells is "I believe" designed by lou senter
    the SEN in anSEN automotive
i got one straight from Lou before the gave up the rights to them...
they're actually really nicely made and as close as your going to get to a real one...just need to sand all the corners and smooth it out and polish it...then it wont look so billet anymore
it even has a real leather seal for the pump to work

you could also use a beer keg pump...they sell longer ones 8" i think that are 1.5" o.d. and work very well

    good luck

Traditional ones came in two flavors, essentially pre- and post- WWII.
Old sprint cars and such used OEM pressure pumps used on luxury cars about WWI period, I think to boost gravity systems on hills. "1910 Cadillac" is a typical guess at origin...
Shortly after WWII, Eelco and Moon supplied similar new ones for use with little racing tanks. Pure racers used just the Moon/Eelco system, many street cars used the aftermarket tanks as a secondary system for racing on Saturday. "Weekend Warrior" was an attached label by the late fifties or so.

This is the early version of the Moon tank/pump that Bruce was referring to:

This is like the one I have:

    EELCO style:

The correct shutoff valves are very tough to get ahold of, they are WWII aircraft surplus. Moon also made one with a pump that mounted through the cap in the tank instead of on the side. I'll scan one of my old Moon catalogs later and post a pic.

I used a stainless steel beer keg pump I got on ebay for $20. Fabbed a set mounting brackets and chromed them, shortened the plunger rod and threaded a V8 shift knob on the end.

The Moon/Eelco ones shown also came with side brackets for cowl side mounting and with just the cylindrical pump made to mount through a dash hole like a gauge.

  9. I sold this old Eelco pump to a HAMBer awhile back.

That looks almost exactly what I've seen in the book "Flat Out" by Al drake,...I'm of course looking to keep it Pre-WWII as most of you guys already know by now. I'm thinking that the beer keg one looks the most period correct.

Now my application was to be to mount it inside the tub, possibly on the dash and to do away with any fuel pump. The gas tnk is a 20-25 oval T tank mounted in the rear of the trunk, up about in the middle of the trunk's depth...I'm not srue if this would work, but its worth the time putting into the idea thus far. The only prblem I thought of was that the gas tank would be at the same plane if not just under the dual carbs when I get them setup.

Zach,..doesnt your roadster with the aluminum dash have a pump right towards the middle?? sure looked like it!!??

Hey any idea what maker that beer keg pump is?? I found a few similar ones on ebay right now,...two that look VERY similar,...was going to bid to get one, but I'd like to make sure I'm on the right track first.

    here's one of them...

I have a Bell dash mount, a Bell side mount, and an Eelco forget-how mount. None are for sale, but all were obtained on Ebay. Sometimes they can be had for under a hunnert, if you're patient.

I think a "guy in the know" would be able to spot a beer-keg pump as easily as the new billet pump. If you're serious about authenticity, just shop around for a real one.

I tripped over one of the "Mebbe 1910 Cadillac" kind, with nifty patent relief valve and patina'd nickle plating at Englishtown, one of the most wretchedly low grade car fleamarkets on the planet. The owner had not a clue about the thing, and I left him excitedly examining the crisp new $3 bill I gave him...
It's now running around England on a Model A.

not if its mounted in the dash,....i'm guessing that many of these early pre-wwii pieces were home made deals anyway,....lots of backyard fabrication by shade-tree. Just a thought though....

So you have three nice ones, but not using anyone of them??...boy that ****s! well hopefully they'll see some use...

THAT is very cool! Yeah Englishtown is horrible! Was there for the first and LAST time a year ago,....I wanted to kick over one of those jack***es on their motorscooters and bikes going up and down the isles, backing things up, it was rediculous,....its was like the white trash tiwan scooter show rather than a swap meet,....really sad,...wish it was better!!

This is the pump I got from Bruce.

I had it mounted in the car and very crudely mocked it up so it would pressurise the tank, which it did well.
Unfortunatly I got cold feet and fitted a conventional electric fuel pump instead...

That either says something about the seller...
    Or the buyer, Bruce.:p

yes my car has a dash mounted one....
its not hooked to anything though
someone put an electric pump on the car along the line

it runs and i dont have time for a redo....so....thats that?
i think if you made a front plate on a lathe for a dash mount....you could fit the beer keg pump in the back for the actual workings
its terribly simple to make though if you have a lathe accessible
but for $15-$20 might as well buy it and adapt

i have one of those caddy pumps too...wish mine had the mounts though!

    good luck
