Got about three weeks to get the Suburban ready for the drive to Bonneville, and could use a hand swapping the engine and trans and some other stuff this Saturday/Sunday. Also would like to try and pull the front fenders to scuff and spray bomb the firewall and swap in my good inner fenders. No sheetmetal would make the engine swap a lot easier. (The front sheetmetal on this thing comes off REALLY easy...no mysteries, no surprises) The engine has been out once already, all the wiring, hoses and exhaust are new, so there shouldn't be any surprises or huge h***les when we drop in the new one. There will be coolers with water/gatorade/soda, a big tub full of ice and beer, and I'll feed ya too. (pizza, grilled burgers, Beef O'Brady's wings, whatever) Might even set up the TV in the garage and have World's Fastest Indian playing. Anybody in? -Brad
Where abouts are you located? My Saturday is tentatively booked to start building a new garage for my toys, but I might be able to make it sometime over the weekend.
Doors open at any time...I'll be setting the alarm at seven bells to get out there and get rolling. Boy Wonder is going to HATE that...I can hear it now; "But it's my LAST Saturday before school starts!" I'm in Jefferson, up I-85 at exit 137. -Brad
Looks like you, Jayzee and I will be busy Saturday. Boy wonder going to be helping out? Do you have everything you need?
Well... as much as I'd like to help a fellow HAMBer, looks like the garage building project at my house is a Go For Launch this Saturday morning. My house has a two-bay garage, but get real: only two?????? The new detached one will be a three-holer. Still not enough, but you know... one step at a time...
Oh yeah, Boy Wonder has officially reached the age where he gets dirty, and can actually contribute to the project. I THINK I have everything I need, but you know how that goes. We s****ed all the insulation/surface rust/**** off the inside of the ceiling last night, in preparation to putting the sound deadening in it. Tonight, we're going to pull the front sheetmetal, tomorrow engine and trans comes out, firewall gets sanded/painted, frame rails get painted. Would like to move along as far/fast as possible, but I probably won't have the truck back on the road until next weekend. Just in time for the swap meet. I'd LOVE to have it on the road by Wednesday, but I also want to get the new power booster/clutch master ***embly on and new front brake lines run. That'll be easier with the front sheetmetal off. -Brad
Damn I would love to help out. But the wife has had other plans for me this weekend for a while. Seeing that this is one of the last weekends before I go back over to play in the big sand box. Hope it all goes well and safe. Have fun
I'm tied up this weekend otherwise I would be out there. I've always wanted to check out your spred and see the g***er.
I got a little uneasy there when I read "check out your spred"...then I remembered I can probably outrun you. -Brad
Front clip is off, old engine and ****** are out, frame and firewall are ready for paint. Made a couple of trips to the parts store for various replacements. PM Brad if you want to come out and play tomorrow.
You forgot the biggest accomplishment: we s****ed about 10 pounds of hammer-it-off dirt/tar/and concrete reinforced grease off the front suspension and frame rails. Also got a s****y flexible hydraulic line segment made at the auto parts store in town, to go from the clutch master's solid hard line to the slave on the bellhousing. Tomorrow I think I'm going to hit Home Depot early in the morning and get the supplies to make a 25 foot extension cord for my welder so I can use it in the garage (instead of the shop...working on the truck in the garage, because the shop is too full of ****). Buzz a bunch of the extra previous-owner installed holes in the firewall, and stich the cracked front bumper mount while I'm there. Then D/A the firewall, scuff the frame rails, and paint. -Brad
