I just got a call from Craig's Uncle Bill,...... Craig got killed in a Helicoptor crash today in Az. I have knowen Craig and his family since he was 15,... His purple Deuce roadster was on the cover of Rod& Custom in Feb. 07,......... all his life he loved Hot Rods, and has owned several, Craig was a chopper pilot for TV news,.. He was a good friend, we didn't always see eye to eye, but he loved historic hot rods way back into the 70's when I showed him a picture of the Joe Nitti Deuce, Craig was currently building a chopped 33 5/W coupe.
I'm going to miss you Craig,............

The city's obviously buzzing about it right now. It's frightening news that no one wants to hear. Knowing he was the owner of that roadster brings it home.

    Condolences to all involved....

Amazing, I have never met the man but I have that issue and have studied the article over and over. It's wierd, you see the work of talented individuals, talk about them, admire them think of them as maybe the guy down the street building a rod. It's kinda' makes all of us kindred in some way. Next thing you know they're gone. You never know when your time has come... Prayers to all his family and friends.

OMG... There was just a story about this on DrudgeReport. There was video of him on the air, and then saying, "Oh jeez.." and then the camera going black. Horifying...

We were talking about this just this morning. I'm so sorry that he was a fellow hotrodder. Many prayers go out to him and his family.

Thoughts are with his family and the other families. Two news helicopters crashed and they lost both pilots and both camera guys.

Someone explain this to me. Craig Smith dies and Barry Manilow is still kicking. It's just not fair.

Seriously, any death is tragic. But to loose a talent who many others admire and aspire to be like is beyond. God speed Craig.

Saw this on Drudge too. Didn't know the guy was into hot rods. Pretty much ****s either way. When I see the car chases and stuff on the news with all the choppers buzzing around I always wonder how they manage to avoid each other. Guess sometimes they don't.

This is bad news. My thoughts go out to his brother Bryan, they were like best friends. We had the privilage of working for Craig a few years ago and he was always in touch since.

My thoughts go out to his family and many friends.

That's a damn shame. I'm a print news reporter on the ground, and it's hard enough doing this job without being in a helicopter. Those poor guys.
I'm actually amazed this sort of thing doesn't happen more often--helicopters are not the easiest things to fly around in, and anything that happens, the news copters are all right over it.

Your right, there was a total of 4 people that died in the crash and I should have mentioned that,.... but I am still a little shocked over this, Craig was just the last person on the face of the earth you would expect this to happen to.

I've had some copter lessons and flown with my doctor in his and I gotta tell you, there is so much **** that a pilot has to watch and monitor while flying, it's a miracle that more incidents like this don't happen more often. I'm amazed.

I watched the video and the reaction of the other newscaster immediately made me think of the guy reporting at the Hindenburg crash. He had a hard time mainting his composure.
