Well yesterday I got a couple of little things done on the rpu. I put the body back on the frame so that I could make a template of the filler piece to weld to the tranny hump around the shifer. I realized putting the body back on that if I welded that to the tunnel, I would have a real tough time putting the body on with only a 3" hole around the shifter. So I formed a removable panel out of more 18 gauge the bolts to the hump thru nut-serts in the hump. It worked out good, and actually will allow me some room to work there if I ever need to adjust the shifter linkage, tighten the shifter bolts etc. It didn't take much forming to make it fit the hump. I used my "english knee", and the "english welding tank" in place of the english wheel that I don't own(or know how to use) I also welded up all the extra hole in the front door jam for all the old wood screws that fastened the body to the original wood subframe, plus all the misc holes there were since 1929. Then I got the seat mounts done. I formed them from some 1/4" flat bar that I bent to fit the seat bottom, and these bolt to the seat. The I welded some tabs to the subframe to bolt the seats to. A couple of pretty simple projects that somehow took a full long day to finish. But at least now I can start on the toe-boards & bell-housing area of the floor, and last the flat floor boards. Heres a few pics as it sits Dan
Very impressive work. I have been following you and your dads projects for a while now. You certainly have the gift. Keep up the great work ....... and lots of pics. Randal
Lookin real good as usual Dan. Everything on my project seemed to take longer than it should, but every day is progress isn't it. I hit the streets with my '37 last weekend and your's is right around the corner too. Keep the updates coming.
Thanks a lot, I apprecaite! I must warn you though, you gotta watch my dad-he's a trouble maker Isn't that the truth. Every time I say "this shouldn't take long" I regret it instantly. Hey Keith-congrats on the 37'- you must be so excited! I had no idea you got it going already-did you post up any recent pics? I love your car Actually I made the bed for it myself. I did buy stake pockets & a repop tailgate from mack hils, then I built the rest. Today I redid the bed mounts. I couldn't really put my finger on it, but something was bugging me about the look of the car, but the shop is so crowded I couldn't get a far away look at it for a long while. Well I finally was able to get a decent side view and I realized that the bed was mounted too high So I cut the old mounts out, built new ones, and mounted the bed an inch lower-it made a HUGE difference. I am just glad I realized it now, before paint. That would have sucked. Heres a couple few pics of the bed
Like that p/u wasn't already nice...now it's perfect!!! Good eye for the lines Dan. Here's my latest, still lots to do. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197067
Nice progress. I've been watching since it was a Fordor sedan. Looking forward to seeing it all shiny someday. Neal
Cool pickup! Those louvers look wild! What are the dimensions of the truck's box? It looks very well proportioned.
