I have one thats just called Bakersfield '63 at the top of the cover, and at the bottom says 5th Annual United States Fuel & Gas Championships, Bakersfield, California. Ed
I put a 125 album collection in the cl***ifieds. it includes Big sounds of the drags and BSOTD vol.2 and 1963 winternationals
My dad had "BIG Sounds of the Sports Cars"...looked just like that, except with sports car pics and such. Same basic layout and graphic style. I used to listen to it while I played with my old AFX slot car track!
Yep, I got volume 1 and Hot Rods & Dragsters in stereo dated 1959,and yes I bought it new. Wow! just seems like yesterday.
I have volume 1. Back when I was in high school in Tulsa (early 70s), I bought a drag race album at the Target on Yale, and it was different, recorded at some pretty high and low frequencies (at least according to the notes on the cover). My buddy had a really serious stereo, and when we would put it on his turntable and crank it up, it sounded like we were there. The windows in his house would rattle. I don't remember the name of the album, but it was recorded in the 70s.
i have a few different big sounds of,,,,drag, racin boats,,,a few others,,,if you do a search,,there is a guy in CA,, that has them converted to modern cd for sale,,,im getting a few my self,,,
ive got one, i think its the bakersfeild one. has the freight train and other on it have to dig it out havent listened to it in years!
Got Vol. 1. It has a photo of the ill fated "Black Beauty" on the cover along with the "Freight Train". I throw away my copy that I had as a kid in the late 60's, but found a copy about 5 years ago, still in the shrink wrap for........$5.
Gang - Everyone who donates an item for the upcoming HAMB Drags Silent Auction will have their name put in a drawing for an original (Volume 1) vinyl "Big Sounds of the Drags" record. Dig through your extra stuff and find an item or two to donate. Bring 'em along to MoKan, send 'em with a friend if you can't make it, or ship 'em to me and I'll get them to the auction. BTW - You don't have to be present to win the "Big Sounds" drawing. I'll send it to the winner at no charge. And hey...you'll get a cool "I donated" pin-on ****on too! (-:
dumb question,,,,what is the auction for ??? the web site??? and what type of items are you looking for,,,????fstfish66@aol.com,,,

I have one called "Sounds of the Drags" with the Ala Kart on the front cover. Is that from the same series?
hope this works,,,this should be the link to the guy on this site selling these converted to cd.....ive never posted a link,, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167441
Got these two awhile back. Bought a new needle for the record player too and the old sounds are fascinating. You can hear the track announcers, the fire-ups, and the sound of those FEDs spinning the slicks for most of the 1320. A little needle noise thrown in for old time's sake.
I have the same one, when I was a little kid in the 70's my dad would play it to get me to go to sleep.
