The Venturas were Convertibles. 11 of the remaining 19 were finished. Don't know what happened to the other eight. These were ***embled in TX by the outfit that bought out Milt Brown.
My bad, ten of the convertibles were Vetta Venturas, one was an Apollo. The Vetta's were styled by Scaglione. As for the GT's...details are sketchy depending on original production numbers or what was finished in TX. Original production numbers show only 39 coupes and one convertible. It looks like there were still ten bodies leftover even after the Tx crew was done bulding them. Hmm!! They were ***embled in Pasadena California under the direction of Milt Brown. The frames were a simple ladder frame with modified buick suspension. The body was designed by Ron piescia. The bodes were made in Italy by Frank Resners Intermeccanica of Turin. I had to dig out my "Complete Book of Collectible Cars" from the 80's. The early ones were 3500GT's with the 215. Then came the 5000GT with the 300.
No that's not it. It was called the Thorn**** Special not the Thorndike Special. You keep saying/writing Thorndike. If you are being so picky with my answer at least get your part right. Some places have it spelled wrong and that is evidently where you are getting your info.
Yup. IMDB spells it both ways. Mr. Thorn****: What part of Ireland did you say your mother came from? Tennessee Steinmetz: Coney, Ireland.
Not being picky. But a Buick Apollo is not even close. Most of the cars were Buick powered, a few with Fords, and a few with Chevy engines.I'll take some pics tommorrow if it's nice and post them.
"Last edited by Kickstarter : Yesterday at 10:00 PM. Reason: letter missing . " Thats what it says under your post. As soon as I made the spelling comment you changed it. Yes it does depend on where you go for your information. I look forward to the pictures. To others thanks for the cool history on the two cars.
Not sure if this will work, but here is a short clip of an Apollo going down the road. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v521/Kickstarter/?action=view¤t=2dfc62dc.flv
There once was a hippie with a herbie who had happy days until he got herpies. How he managed that in a VW, I don't know, but I understand that funny little cigarettes help.
Wow! I remember seeing Ralph Malph's RPU for sale at Spring Carlisle back in 1990. I remember it had a sign on it saying, "Original Car From Happy Days". It was in pretty rough shape back then. I can't remember what the asking price was. Do you have any pictures of it now?
