Would like to converse with anyone who has or is in the procss of installing a French Flathead engine in their ride. Video Bob
Go ahead, I'm listening. What do you want to hear? It runs awsome, doesn't smoke, runs too cold, has tons of oil pressure, and costs about the same as a decent rebuild of an early flatty. Crusty
Does anyone have the website from the guy in Texas selling them? Other sources? The Techno Site has some useful looking info on them: http://www.btc-bci.com/~billben/flathead.htm And Red's Headers site has detail photos.
I don't have a complete one. But I DO have lots of internal French parts in my C69A engine. Finish, quality and fit is excellent. They are made of a superior grade of material. And will probably outlast any other flathead made. (so far; it's been determined they were produced as late as 1986!) Keep an eye out for a new book that Mike Bishop (aka "aV8") is publishing on the "French Connection." (I just made the name up; he hasn't put an "offical" ***le on the book yet)
I've got one still in the original wooden box it came in from Mark Kirby. Maybe I should dig it out a build it
try dave tatom " www.tatom.com "one hell of a good guy,he's been dealing with flatheads forever. spent some time with him at the performance trade show a couple years ago and the guy has forgotten more than most people will ever know about flatheads (french block included)
Mine is also a 4" motor, I got mine from a guy in Texas, but not the "webbed toe" guy. Last time I talked to him he only had a couple left. Anyone who wants his info can PM me. And, FWIW I emailed the webbed toe guy about something recently and have never heard back.
Webbed-toe.com is my personal website. I put up a page for a neighbor of mine ( John Scrivanek ) he sells the french flatheads. I don't have anything to do with the sale of the engines, and I don't get paid to advertise for him. As far as I know everyone has been happy with John and his dealings. If any HAMBers are ever not happy you let me know. I'll pull that adverti*****t quicker than...well use your imagination.... The actual owner of the French Flatheads is Brent Mullins. He restores military vehicles and goes all over the world buying military surplus. He bought the French Flatheads and imported them to the U.S. He sold them to Halibrand and got them back after they went bankrupt. Brent is really only interested in restoring miliary vehicles. He isn't really prepared to answer a slurry of phone calls about the engines. I guess what i'm saying is call Brent if you are serious and buying....Call John if you want to discuss what he had to do to run one.
Hey 30 roadster, my post wasn't meant to be a slam or anything like that, I had just emailed recently about buying some Zenith carbs and hadn't got a reply, thats all. I dont know who the email goes to from the contact link on your web page.
Naw I didn't think it was a slam....your safe bro I was just making sure everybody understands the relationship. Not to make excuses...but John is totally computer illiterate...his wife usually reads his emails and gives them to him....call him if he doesn't get on it....or I live pretty close and i can thump him on the head for ya.
Gotta watch out for them Nor-Cal boys.... they fergit what it's like when they have to talk to actual people... Good seeing you last month, Matt, on my way this weekend to pick up a ch***is for the T Sedan...
THANKS for all ihe Very Helpful info on my request about the French Flathead engine. I hope to purchase one this next week. Just found out some new info on the future of this engine & will relay it to you after I purchase mine. Video Bob
I`ve bought one to put in my 36 3 winda. The company that i bought off is www.rrservices.com I was a bit wary when I called them as to whether they were Hot Rod friendly or not, but he informed me that they do a lot of business with hot Rod guys and they had shipped 40 4" cranks over to the states. My motor was built in `86 and has a 4" crank and seems in real good nick.Plans are for a 286 ci 3/4 race motor. He said that supply was not a problem..Christ knows where they get them.
Mark Kirby is now with Jon Hal at Shadow Rods, they are building "New Aluminum Flathead Blocks" If I remember correctly the block is set to use there 4 1/4" crank ( yes 4.250" ) they used some of the improvements from the French blocks and developed a lot more specificly for the Hot Rod application. The new Flathead Block http://www.motorcityspeedequipment.com/content.asp?page_id=newblock shadow rods http://www.shadowrods.com
No 2nd thoughts on buying one of those French Flatheads after receiving all the positive feedback. Now the next thing on the agenda is to FIND ONE. So far all the leads I've gotten of peope who were suppose to be selling them proved to be dead ends with the last being Brent Mullins in Texas. Seems Brent sold everything including the building to a company in Calif. At present the engines & all their components are being loaded in containers for shipment back to Calif where they'll be stripped , rebuilt & sold as long blocks for $7 - $8000 which is out of my reach. If anyone knows of someone or a company that has one of these engines for sale , PLEASE let me know. Any help in locating one of these engines will be greatly appreciated
My wife did a google search and found the website for these guys... http://www.rrservices.co.uk/ Yep, that's right... they're located in the UK. I think shipping might be a tad pricey!
The person who bought the '34 5W from me, Joe Fazio, said he was the one who bought all the remaining French FH engines and parts from Texas. He was having them sent to North Cal. Try contacting him at joefaziofw@earthlink.net . Steve
