Please don´t chop the 3w - it doesn´t improve the look at all.

You could make a "sloper" out of the four door with a bit of work...

These cars are now owned by one of the most creative talents on earth. I will ask to see if he will contribute some "in progress" pics along the way. My income and abilities wouldn't do justice to these cars, but hang on guys, you're going to see something remarkable take place.

Sweeet!.....I'd have to convert the 3 window to a 37 though. I don't really like the 38 grilles.....

Here's Rudy Munoz' 39 that started it all for me , I have shots of it before it was chopped also . In my humble opinion , stock height/stock roofline looks right , if you slam it , it needs to be chopped . I see them slammed unchopped and they look a little out of proportion to me . In other words I like them both ways. If my car wasn't original paint , I would have chopped and slammed it a while ago . Here's a shot of my car next to S****e also , makes my car look a mile high and S****e too chopped I think . You guys that say no chop , I guess you would feel like a ***** pulling up in Rudy's 39 right ??? Yeah , I don't think so ! There are a lot of differences besides the grille from 37 to 38 , 37 rear fenders are 8 or 9 inches shorter for starters .

Here's Rudy's 39 before he chopped it , in Lowrider magazine Dec. 96. I bought the magazine in 96 was flipping through it cause I had a 59 Impala at the time , saw Rudy's car and said "WTF is that !!! I gotta find one !!!"

Not to piss on your parade, but you show '39 FORD taillight rings. Did you get the Zephyr rings too? Very hard to find and expensive.

    Foghorn,

What a great score. Congratulations. I swear I'm turning into my grandfather (a die hard restorer). That pic of the 3wd on the trailer looks about perfect.... just remove the trailer & shoot it in a stock color.

Yeah, I'd have a hard time not restoring that car.

    38zephyr,

Thanks for the photos. It is nice to be able to see Rudy's car in paint both chopped & not. FWIW, I liked it better unchopped.

I can spot a '37 Zephyr easily but can't say that I know the differences between a '38 & '39. Could you post some pics? How about a few more of your car? I think I love it.

    TIA, JH

Here's a couple shots of my car and my 39 conv. I sold a couple years ago to kind of give you an idea of some of the differences . There are lot's of small differences , but I'll cover a few of the big ones so you'll be able to tell a 38 from a 39 at 50 yards or so . 38 horizontal grille bars/39 vertical , 38 flatter headlight lenses ,39 curvier headlight lenses and different rings ,38 hood bird/39 flatter looking ornament and different trim on nose , 38 rubber covered running boards (you can see what's left of my O.G. ones) /39 painted body color boards , 38 dash with really deco cluster,39 dash big speedo with gauges built in , 38 real curvy seat / 39 much plainer , 38 license plate light with surround that says Lincoln Zephyr V12 / 39 has script that says Lincoln Zephyr in it's place ,38 simple bumpers /39 much fancier in front (to let air in the grillemaybe?) ,38 push and pray mech. brakes (my car still has em' keep them adjusted and they work great and wide pattern wheels with diff. caps/39 juice brakes smaller pattern wheels diff. caps . There's plenty of other small trim , emblem and other differences , these are just the broad strokes . That's Rudy's green 39 dash with the chrome glovebox doors .

Foghorn, after seeing more of 38zephyr's cars, I know I'd have to restore that coupe.

I love all the little details of the '38. The headlights, hood ornament, dash, license light, etc.... make that '38 a quirky killer. I love that car. I guess '37-'41 probably all had one-year-only details?

    Neat stuff.
