HAMB Chop III, will it be you this year?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Luke Jivetalker, Apr 19, 2004.

  1. Ok kids, it's time once again to get all the candidates in line for HC III. The date has been set for June 12/13, as always it's the weekend before the LA Roadsters Father's Day Show, Sun the 13th there is a meet @ El Mirage, so I'm sure we'll be heading out there for a while.

Just as a refresher, here's the rules for HC:

    1) car must be in driveable (or damn close) condition.
    2) car's owner should be motivated, seeking knowledge, and available for the entire weekend, the Friday before, and the Monday after.
    3) car's owner is responsible for all costs involved, this includes the t-shirts, the grub, the drink, the supplies, and any other **** that might come up, last two have hit it for about a grand.
    4) we will chop your car and rough it out, YOU will have to finish it.
    5) we HAVE to have fun.
    6) car owner responsible for getting the vehicle to Hesperia, not sure if it'll be @ Killer's or @ the Black Jacks' Club House again, stay tuned...

As usual, space is limited for the choppers and spectators, there are plenty of hotels and such if you need a place to crash.

Post your replies here and we'll get back to you by May 12 so that you can get all your ducks in a row.

Oh man! That's the same weekend as the Rat Fink Party in Canoga Park and I'm already commited to that. Too bad cuz I really wanted to help with a HC.

i can't speak for the car/owner from hamb chop one. ...but i'm guessing poorboy and his dad are still working hard on his chevy... that project had all the mechanical **** done first.

i didn't contribute much to the last hamb chop except some photos and keeping the keg pumped. ...but up for more this year. interested to know the details.

pics from around the chop last year

I would love to have my car chopped!! [IMG]

Unfourtantly, I'm not sure where we'll be living then. My landloard did a Dr. Jekel and went ***hole and gave us a 15 day notice to move. So we are scrambling right now. I'm not sure if we'll have a place. [IMG]

But count me in as a contender anyway. [IMG]

Welllll I didnt see where it said anything about age (I am only 34) in the first post. I will say that I am so ready for the HAMBchop on my 32 truck I can almost taste it. I almost have all the parts for the truck to be finished but need the chop done to start ***embling (I still need a pedal ***embly and that is it for major parts). I do need to step and z the frame as well as shorten the bed. I really am motivated to learn to chop and want to do it the right way first... this 32 is a dream truck for me and I want it to be done right. I don't want anyone to do it for me but am not really a sheetmetal guru by anymeans. I have welded a little bit as well as cut things up but need to be schooled. I will do this thing by myself but want to have a story to tell my kids (if I ever have any) that this truck I am giving them was chopped by the HAMB way back in 2004. Well I may not be the prime hambchop age but I think think I will be a perfect idiot for it.

  20. Blake, maybe we could chop the cab AND shorten the bed? we'd have plenty of time, as for the question about hot rod or kustom, it dont matter, we'll pick a car and owner that deserve it

There's no such thing as a 15 day notice unless it's failure to pay rent and that's a 3 day notice but has to be served by a [peace officer].
Even a 30 day then has to go to court if you decide to stay and fight it.
In the long run though it's not worth fighting because the fight never ends till you do move.

Considering the history of the previous cars, I think the HAMB chop should be on a running and otherwise, (except interior and paint) finished car.

Ok I'll shut up now since I didn't, or couldn't, make it to either one.... [IMG]

Hey if we ever have a Midwest chop I'd be up for it. This weekend we are putting the V-8 and ****** in and getting ready to put the front sheet metal back on. I've got a 1953 Chevy 210 2-dr hardtop that is just dying for a Moonglow chop. Here's a photoshop of what I would like it to look like.

  24. Doc, I agree with you about the running thing, Poorboy's Chevy was soooooo close, it should be on the road by now but who knows, maybe you can make it out this year?

Long story was that we didn't have all our rent on the first, so we gave him $200. The day before we were going to give him the remainder, is when he stuck the letter on our door. It was a three day notice to pay or quit thing, but instead of saying three days, it said zero. It just said we had 15 days to move. Plus the person he had to serve it to us just taped it on the window, never even saw the guy, just woke up and it was there. So I know if it comes down to court, we'd have the upper hand. But we'd just like to find a place and not have it come to blows. But if we don't find a place in 15 days, we do plan on teling him that he has to give us a 30 day notice by law. But like I said, we just want to move. No sense in fighting to stay somewhere we're not welcome. I guess he wants his mom to move in, so we're on our way out regardless. ****y situation. [IMG] [IMG]

On a happier note- my car does run and drive. The interior is out and waiting for the funds to get re-done. (Until then we have a loner seat to drive around with.) Otherwise it needs a few dents taken care of and a few more body holes sealed up is all, but I drive it like it is. The motor could use a re-build, but I've been told the straight eights are pretty much indestructable, so I'm not to worried there, it just smokes and leaves it's mark where ever I park. (But I did get new rings for it, so all I really need is a gasket set and a few hands to help.) But as long as it's moving, i'm gonna drive it! [IMG]

  27. Yea, im soon getting a 49-52 chevy 4 door.. Heres a photoshop for something i want...

Im up for something new, even though i dont have the car yet [IMG]

ahahah you are a guru photochopper.. you even z'd the frame haha. well thanks for that... I hope to get her done!

  30. wow last year this was a 3 pg thread by now ??? my opinion is that the age thing in theory sounds nobel but the past shows other wise I know that if I put out $1000 that car would get done!!!i think history of work preformed and some knoledge needs to be considered to make this sucessful its not a sucsess if the car is rotting on goochs street
