The family and I will be in Maine August 4-15th. We're doing the tourist thing, Lobster fest, whale watching tour, etc.....

What I'm looking for is suggestions on:
    1. A really good sea food restaruant
    2. A local cruise night/cl***ic car gathering.

It's been about 9 years since I was on the east coast and I miss fresh sea food.
Iowa is great for pork chops, steak, corn, etc.. but Red Lobster just doesn't cut it when it comes to sea food. :)

What part of Maine will you be vacationing in? I live on the NH seacoast, and have vacationed in Maine for the past 20 years. I've spent time in Bar Harbor (a must see), Moosehead Lake (must see too), Rangley Lake, Sabago Lake, rafting down the Kennebec, mid-coast (Popham beach - a must see), Yarmouth/Freeport, Portland, Ogunquit areas.

You might run into Pontiac Slim a HAMB-er at that show.
Also check out Ray Tourigny's work at: http://www.extremerodandcustom.com
they are on Allen Ave, in west Portland. They may have some cruise night ideas.

Well I live here so I can give you a few thoughts....

    1. Stay away from Dimillos restaurant. The novelty of eating on a boat does not justify overlooking some ovepriced so-so food.

    2. Geet mentioned the Lobster Shack in Cape Elzabeth and it is very popular. It's a very small building right on the ocean and you really could not find better scenery for a meal. You can eat inside if there is room or outside on the picnic tables or rocks. It's a great place to bring kids if your looking for some really casual 'dining'.

    3. If you're going to spend some a good portion of your time in Portland you might want to consider taking a trolley tour. They are open air and circle around Potland, South Portland, and parts of Cape Elizabeth including Fort Williams part where the Portland Head Light is. It might be a good way to spend an hour or two when you first arrive. You'll get a bit of history and also learn about some stuff you might want to go back and check out on your own.

    4. I'm perhaps going to stick my foot in my mouth here but I'll say it anyway. There's not a huge organized scene in Portland that I know of. I see a few old stock rides rumbling around on the nicer days but the closest thing to a cruise night I've heard about is a Saturday morning meetup at Skillins Greenhouse on rt. 88 in Falmouth. I've yet to attend but I guess it's a very mixed bag of cars that show up and is very family friendly.

You're going to be visiting during a very nice time of year. My wife and I often toss the kids into the car and just cruise around enjoying the weather because you know it's going to snow soon enough. :D

ok ok ok , The best seafood is NOT a fancy place anywhere in So. ME ! In Portland you have Susans fish & chips deep fried lobster tail mmm mmm good!(forest ave/morrils corner) or Benny's (commercial street past Cat terminal) .

    Car stuff in the area:
    Godenrod Garage Freeport
    Wymans Auto Gorham
    Extreme Rod & Custom Portland
Blast from the Past Diner Waterboro

If I think of anything else I'll post up. Weekdays I'm on Warren Ave in Portland if ya need anything or help w/ direction. I'll PM ya my #.
