What is it about A-400's ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jrblack30, Jul 28, 2007.

  1. Well,

I have a model A, and I know the model A's pretty well. So forgive my stupidness on this question.

What is it about the A-400's that makes it woth $17,000.00 for a baket case?

    How many were built?

Seems like you be better off with a roadster rather than one of these. Just looking for a good reason someone would spend $17K for something like this. Sorry for the link to that site.

    A-400 here

  2. They're very rare. Supply and demand.

it's not a basket case, it's a truckload. you'd get triple that for the body alone if it were a 32 B400.

I don't know how many A400s they made, but they are pretty rare these days. I like them.

  4. Just found a cool site, hold on.

  5. Very rare... almost as rare as a deluxe pickup or a town car...

    Sam.

The A and B 400s are a good example of a rare body style that demands a high price but are not really good looking cars.

They certainly look better with the top up! They didn't sell that many because they were also very expensive for their time.

  9. A few years ago I was driving the Roach Rod around town and a guy comes up and says "I have a Model A!"

"Cool, what body style" I ask...

He says... "It's a pickup, a really rare one... they only made 256 of them."

    I thought "yea right"...

I had only seen pictures of those things (I only know of three different original 30's photos of them, they are RARE!)

I said "cool!"... then he invited me over to check it out!

Sure as ****... he has one!

It was a hot rod at one time... had 16x5 and 16x4 Steelies... a flathead... dropped axle...

He has since sold off all the hot rod parts... and is restoring it...

    Very cool.

Anyway, here's a pic of one in case you've never seen one.

    Sam.

I believe there were only 43 B400's built with 4 cyliners.

The 400-A is one of those cars that has been collected since people first started restoring A's back in the 50's. Kinda like a '32, guys have been looking for 'em for over 50 years. Same deal on the victoria's, very popular with the old restorer guys.

Starting to sound like a muscle car Barret Jackson numbers-matching correct paint code crowd around here when we start quoting numbers and collectibles. LOL

Not that I wouldn't take one if I found it. :)
