This is only a MODEL airplane, but what he must have spent putting this together, and learning to fly it. This aircraft runs on four chainsaw motors. You can just imagine how much time, effort, skill and money these guys have put into this thing. http://users.skynet.be/fa926657/files/B29.wmv ....... Jersey skip
Way cool. If I recall correctly, either this group or another one eventually rocket powered the X1 model (just a small motor for effect... 1/2A sized). Typically takes a couple people to fly big planes like this.... and it can all go horribly wrong very fast. R/C Turbine jets are pretty cool too. They are very fast and very expensive, but on the upside they are difficult to fly, so you can stuff lots of money into the ground very quickly, but look cool doing it.
Digger, I don't think the elevator on a B-29 has enough travel/authority to provide the necessary angle of attack, nor would it have adequate horsepower/thrust to overcome airfoils designed to lift the other way, to allow the aircraft to fly level while inverted, but that's just supposition. Not to mention the roll instability from what becomes negative dihedral, combined with the heavy roll inertia, once one gets the aircraft inverted. Even if the elevator travel was adequate I daresay the pilot would have to be able to bench one helluva lot to be able to push that control yoke forward enough to keep that nose up while inverted. It would be several handfuls. It sure is fun to sorta see it happen, though! Loved that outside loop and the inverted pass low enough to cut a ribbon. Whew!
I'm sure a real B-29 could fly like that- vertical climb, barrel rolls, etc. - AHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! Thanks, Kurt
Since we are OT here you guys need to check out those "Havoc Heli" remote copters. My son and I bought a pair today and they are awesome! You fly them indoors. 3 different channels available. Apparently there is a dogfight set coming out where they use infra red beams to try to shoot each other down. Worth the 30 bucks (CDN) at Walmart. Here's a link to the website: https://www.spindirect.com/product....havoc&sessid=5e7de65fc6ee29819d6546e477bc104a Todd
OHMYGAWD! Did you see this Stormlauncher thing? http://airhogs.com/ (click on videos) And how does that zero gravity Humvee climb the walls? I´m 40 but when it comes to RC stuff we are all like kids again Frank
I asked a retired Col. I know that has an endorsement for the B-29 printed on his pilots license (from back when they used to do that)... Me: Sooooo, could a B-29 fly inverted? The Col.: Not more than once.
I gotta tell ya- that's just wild to me. I can't get over the size and the take offs and landing on grass yet. Amazing.
That's the coolest thing for 30 bucks I have seen in a long time. I went straight to the store and there was 1 left on the shelf. that means some kid ain't gonna get it. HAHAHAHA!
Choptop,I just got off the phone from talking to an uncle that flew a B-29 during the war. HIS response to my question; "Could a B-29 fly INVERTED??" .... well when he stopped laughing; he asked, "Are you joking!!" "I had enough trouble just keeping one of them, straight and level, RIGHT SIDE UP!!" I sent him the link; and he called back and said, "Who ever was controlling the model; REALLY KNEW HIS STUFF!!!"
The world of R/C is just stupid these days. I've flown since the mid 70's and its come soooooo far since then. Computer mixed radios and the 3D capabilities of some of the planes are just amazing. they are doing amazing stuff with helo's these days too.

Usually people are just in to the engineering aspect of it all. I do R/C planes and cars and High Powered Rocketry and there are LOTS of car guys doing both.
If I remember corectly this is Macs' 2nd B-29, the 1st broke up in mid air. americus ga. he has a landing strip and hobby shop. really nice guy.nice road trip to the confederate prison, and town, andersonville, ga.
