My pistons and bearings arrived today for my '58 Cadillac engine destined for the '30 A on deuce rails. The main bearings are made in China. This project is so far beyond budget. I have a real problen using the China bearings in my project. Anyone offer any ***istance? By the way the crank is standard. Regards, Ron
where did you buy them? return policy? special order and whatever , whoever your supplier they are you gonna get them from whoever made them , , the other hand , are they the correct bearings? size ? shape correct number.? how do they look? i think in this day and age unless you bought from EGGE or another old nos supplier you are gonna get what the companies now make from the suppliers that make them i would check to see if the other places know wherethey come from and if you can return the others, consider it some lost time, otherwise i would just double check and plastic guage , measure the bores and and leave it at that, the supplier doesnt want to go through all kinds of h***les because the makeup of the bearings are ****, gotta have some faith in the specs companies send to the makers overseas or not or the whole world economy is gonna go to hell more than it has , sorry little to deep ,just look at the first 2 paragraphs
Yikes - I would find another source for bearing, even if I had to eat to cost of the ones you already have. A cheap intake manifold gasket leak cost you a couple of hours and a few dollars. A bad bearing equals days of time, more broken parts, more machine work, bucket of money and an all around pain.
I'd return them. I've seen and heard too many bad things about any of the Chinese parts from motor parts to brake parts. They seem to be made very cheaply causing poor fitment and or VERY early failue. Look into auto parts stores that sell Dorman or TRW or any of the other more famous parts that have Made in U.S.A stamped on em. You may have to pay more but the cost will be offset by the quality of the parts.
I seek out n.o.s. bearing sets at swap meets for that very reason. Those piles of 30-40 year old bearing sets that someone cleared out of an old parts store or machine shop are golden these days.
You are just asking for trouble with China ****...... Get a hold of Bob Cooper in Burbank at Coopers Vintage . com ...... he has NOS bearings.... do it right!
Call EGGE back and ask them if they have any N.O.S. bearings. Like anyone else, they try & move out the **** parts first ! I bought a set of Rod Bearings for a DeSoto there once, They looked as if the had been sand blasted. When i called them on it they said "Ohh, i noticed that, But i figured they would be fine for a Parade car that dont get driven much " I had to tell them ... " It has 11 to 1 compression and i drive like an idiot" They replaced them no problem with a set of N.O.S Michigan bearings in early '60s boxing... Just a pain in the ***shipping back & forth.
