got one of those right by my house. every timeI approach an already green light I speed up to make it before it changes to yellow. I also hit the brakes hard if it is yellow and I can stop. I don't want to find out the hard way I if it is timed correctly.

I'm sure one of these days I'll get rear ended.

A friend of mine says they already are. He used to have to drive on toll roads (somewhere in the South 48 in the early '80s) and he had a buddy that couldn't drive the speed limit to save his life. So his buddy just threw out the toll stub and paid the lost stub fee, cheaper than a ticket. Evidently they didn't have a fine on littering either ($1000 fine here). Of course I expect they have a way to do that electronically now.

Too bad you're not able to exercise your 6th amendment right to "confront your accusers" in court, in this case, a camera.

Oh well, it was just your consitutional right.

Don't worry, OBD systems, GPS and on-board recorders will soon relay speeding and other info directly to the ticketing agencies, making those pesky cameras unnecessary.

There's a simple solution to avoiding that...don't fuck around on your spouse. If you don't do things you'll get in trouble for, you won't (usually) get in trouble.

I have a very hard time making the jump from my constitutional rights and personal freedoms being infringed by a traffic light. First, as mentioned, driving is a privilige, not a right. And personal freedoms and constitutional rights don't garauntee you the right to break the law. Seriously...if they time the toll roads and show that there's no way you can make it from A to B without speeding, and then you GET CAUGHT speeding, how can you think they aren't being fair? The problem isn't that your rights are being trampled, the problem is that you got caught breaking the law, and you don't like it.

Are there going to be screw up and "short timed" cameras? Probably. Just like there are bad search warrants and human screw ups. It isn't pleasant, but that's the way it is. And that's why the courts are there.

I'm not saying I've never blown through a light...but if I do, and get caught, I'll be pissed...because I got caught.

I was pissed at the cop for the only speeding ticket I've gotten in 20 years...pissed because he didn't let me off, but I didn't whine or try to fight it in court. I screwed up, he nailed me (in what I KNEW was a speed trap town), I paid the fine.

Don't do things you aren't supposed to do, but when you do, suck it up, be a man, admit you screwed up and deal with it.

I had the car late model car (with up to date brakes) (4 lane road) behind me ran the light and my 1948 old truck was able to stop with no problem.
I guess the newer cars brake are not so good...

Install a mechanism to flip the tag over to a bogus tag. Then they can't track you down by your tag.

  8. Windy Hill and Cobb Pkwy got me for $70.00 about a year ago the second week at my new job. I stop on yellow now.

  9. Don,t have to wait. We have that here. Not between toll booths but on the freeway over a certain distance your average speed gets measured by multiple overhead radars.Going fast between the radars and hitting the brakes as you go under them will get you a ticket in the mail. Your average was to high. Now a short history lesson on the speed camera. The damn thing was invented by a LOCAL DUTCH GUY IN THE 1950s. Thats why this country has a speed camera on just about every corner. His name was Maus Gatsonides. Thats why they are called Gatso Meters. No ordinary inventor either. He was a racing driver who competed in the Mille Miglia and even won the LeMans 24 hour in a Ford Zephyr in 1953.
One of his racing / rally cars was an aluminium bodied 1939 MERCURY that was a barn find in the middle of the 1980s. See the pic.

  10. They have them here. They have been PROVEN to cause accidents, not prevent them. Its just another way for the government to put its hand in your pocket.

People slam on the brakes to stop as soon as the lights turn yellow and cause accidents. People hit the gas to make it through the light on the yellow instead of just going through. They also have shortend the yellow on those lights to the bare minimum.

And in Portland, Oregon, they didn't post them at the most DANGEROUS intersections, where the highest rate of accidents occurred, they put them at the highest VOLUME intersections where accident rates were lower, where they could generate the most bucks. Safety issues didn't mean shit.
Sure, we are breaking the law when we do a California roll at a stop sign in the middle of corn country at 3 am, but I hate any little chip at personal responsibility and not being able to make a measured decision on my own because of "smarter" big daddy government.
