The converstation was about Speed TV and how some say they do don't like the flood of Nascar reality shows and shows like Truck U, Two Guys garage, and other shows where a "team" builds a hot ass custom in under a week such as Overhaulin' and Fine Tune... That brought attention to the sport of racing and how they show more races than any other network. Granted that the majority the cover are all Nascar events... Then we discussed this site... http://www.theracingnetwork.com Lets here your thoughts...
Sure okay... I am not big on watchin' TV either but I wouldn't mind catching some gassers goin' at it on the strip or some more F1 races than just the one at Indy. I am not big on the left turn only races but, hell if I had the option between Nascar and Outlaw I would probably watch the Outlaws and super mods before watching Nascar... but thats just me... I guess.
Almost the same for me. I end up taking a nap when I watch TV. I've got the NASCAR thing down pat. I watch the green flag lap and MAYBE a couple more then the next thing I know the guy is saying"7 laps to go" or "when they restart it will be a green, white , checker. In between those two events I've gotten enough rest that I can go out in the shop and work the rest of the day. Frank
Nascar sells plain and simple, I don't like it either and I have had conversation's about it in the past even with a few Tuner's but the simple fact is that lots of people like nascar and it is the fastest growing "sport" right now.
I wouldn't switch but I might ask my cable/satellite provider to add it. I watch selected racing programs, NASCAR, Champ Cars, F1, and Indy Cars, most of which is all on ESPN channels, not on Speed. Speed does have the Rolex series and some SCCA stuff along with the World Rallye stuff and a lot of motorcydle racing. But most of that stuff comes on in the afternoon and I am usually in the garage or outside working. I do like the NHRA drags which are nearly all at night. Unfortunately if they are on too late, I usually fall to sleep and miss the finals.
nascar is just like any other form of sport. as soon as it got big money poured into it , it was ruined. the whole thing thouroghly depresses me. now they are starting the whole "WWE" aspect of it. staging drivers as being arch enemies to one another and shit like that. it would be nice to see someone start a new racing series where cars had to be stock in configuration i.e....fit a factoy body template, run only the best of factory running gear (sorry if your company only makes fwd v6 as its best option, thats what youre running), go to three heats and a main with 15 car fields, and only one set of tires per race/heat. this would put the stock back in stock car racing. sure it would dramatically slow the cars, but it would flat take the money out of building and racing a car. it would also make the real drivers stand out, not these asshats that get rides on account of a name familiarity and the fact they bring a sponsor. i believe this would work because you have a lot of drivers now that have really seem to grow an interest in their roots now and show up at local tracks all the time.just my two cents.
I was under the impression (unconfirmed) That NASCAR Didn't want to spend the money to form it's own Network Station so it bought The Speed Channel, Changed it to "SPEED" and killed off all the cool racing (WRC) coverage. Remember when The Speed Channel played vintage car ad's? The only good nascar is the "Back in the Day" races they show. When nascar took over, I found myself spending twice as much time in my own garage getting my automotive fix. Spike, TLC, and ESPN2 Have a few good shows I'll tivo, but thats about it. If I can't fast forward the ads, I won't watch TV.
I love tv....especially when it has cable access to the music channels....oh yeah..... and the simpsons.
NASCAR maybe the fastest growing sport, but it has lost a lot of fans here in the south where it started.North Wilkesboro Speedway was one of the first tracks,it was bought out so it could be closed so a bigger track [texas I think it was] could open.Like everything else the $$$ have ruined it. A lot of people don't even belive it anymore and think it's like the WWF
Boxing,on wheels! Only racing I watch anymore is drag racing, and the bikes. At least now that Micheal Schumacher is gone, other drivers have a chance in Formula One. Last race was pretty good,in the rain.
race coverage is not coverage its all about drama/ commercials /promoting the next telecast if i seethe girl pumping one arm up or the fram? person?stacking bottles one more time i may go postal if they would just set up cameras for good viewing and let them run... keep commentators out of it and and not get into the drivers heads hmmmm start ... race ... finish show the brackets for the drags and the times and speeds and reaction times ... just let the cameras run during all the classes all day heck the best part of going to the digs here is the days of timetrials at the beginnig of the event ..walking the pits and the lanes to see all the cars .... not who has the best sponsered trailer or "mike time"
NASCAR is to motorsports as Professional Wrestling is to athletics. I'd rather spin wrenches in my garage than watch most TV.
