even my bro's 49 in front has had the springs cut but that raked up NOVA frame puts it almost on the ground. speaking of lowering, anyone got some good luck with a certain airbag system let me or TJR know. Looking to put in some time on his 49. Thanks

I been moving backwards just so you know. the used transmission and carb I put on the car both went bad right about the same time. I got the carb put on but still got to change the trans. I also had to change the front rims. I will post a pic with it more up to date. I just got my hood and both bench seats for the car too, i will post some pics of what I have done just recently.

Nice coupe! What's your plans on your gas tank? This is just a heads up.

The early Mustangs used the top of the gas tank as the trunk floor, with a trunk mat over it. If the gas tank ruptured in a crash the gas could and did go into the p***enger area. Some people got cooked. Then guys started covering the top with sheet metal and sealing it.

I haven't put anything over the top of the gas tank itself but in the back of the rear seat area I put in insulation and over that sheet metal. Let me know if you think this is not enough??

The ****** has been ordered and I am just waiting patiently, ended up being cheaper to buy a new one than to rebuild the old one, including my time ;-). Have fun and see you at the cruize in.

I was in a 67 Mustang that was rear ended back in 1968. The car went down the freeway in a ball of flames and burned to the firewall. The only thing that saved us was we only had 1/8 tank of gas. Please cover the top of the tank with sheet metal, don't use the top of the tank for the trunk floor. Ford did a study and found that they saved $3.50 per car by doing it this way. The bean counters figured out that it was more profitable to pay off the deaths and injurys then to fix the trunk floor due to the high volume of Mustangs sold. I have never bought another Ford since then.

Try a gas tank from a Chevy Monza. Filler comes out in the right area and fits like it was dezigned for the car. Only thing I had to do was form a domed cover in the trunk floor for the sender/pick-up. Could have lowered the tanks a little to avoid that, but the car was already low.

I am workin up to this look. I dunno if it's the Cali look but I'm tired of the east coast look for my car. time for a change.
airbags are underway, no date for the chop yet.

The first Ford products built with a fuel tank whose top served as the trunk floor were the 60-64 Falcon/Comet, along with the Fairlane/Mercury equivalent from around 60-64 as well. 10s of thousands of these were built before a single production Mustang crossed the production line exit door. Mustangs continued the usage of a proven "acceptable risk" technology until, I believe, 1973.

I don't remember a huge outcry about this "problem" when the cars were new.

The mustang gas tank was a had to thing. The tank had been switch already to a in floor tank but had a hole so I went with basically the same tank slight modify. Right now I do not have specific plans on covering the gas tank, I might put something over it, but I have seperated the trunk from the rest of the car.

I was given the radiator for free from a friend it is out of a ford bronco i think. the 350 i have came out of a 1977 P30 work van. I had stock carb on it but just went bad and replaced with holley and an alum. intake I had lying around the shop. the front has been sub-framed with a 1974 NOVA and I have the NOVA rear as well. The rake of the car is in the frame. The nova was all drum brake and i think I like it that way for now. the headers I have came with the car when I bought along with another bad 350 and trans. I have a turbo 350 trans and Lokar shifter, real tall one haha. the panels on the inside are counter tops straight from the 60's blue with gold splashing. I got cheater slicks in the back gonna be interesting to drive. my headers run into Smithy gl*** packs. out the side of the headers are dump tubes for those extra loud occasions or just to open it up some. I just got a hood and front and rear bench seats which I can't wait to put in. I love when my girl can scoot right up next to me. What about you that car is awesome you got there!
