Guys being the cheap ******* that I am I just cannot find it in me to cough up a hundred bucks for a bronze dizzy gear when it looks like I may be able to modify a 440 chrysler gear (30 bucks) for what I need.

So does anyone have a 440 dizzy gear that would be willing to take a couple measurements with a caliper?

    OD of gear?

    Width of gear tooth section?

    Confirm it's 18 tooth?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes I am considering it for this motor and will definitely run one on the next motor. SO one way or another I'm gonna need that bronze gear.

I've modified my pump (dropped it down) so I doubt that anything off the shelf will work. SO I was plannign on getting some 4140HT to make a shaft out of and go from there. After seeing what they want for the ***y I just couldn't justify it.

I can buy just the bronze gear for cheap (30 bucks or so) for a 440 - and by my superficial research I think it might be able to be modified into a 392 configuration. They want 100 bucks just for a 392 gear - not gonna happen from this tightwad. I'll make the damned gear from scratch before I get bent over like that.

If I can't get any info - I think I'll take my 392 gear up to Bearing Distributors and see what they can match up.

There's no way I could afford to build this car paying top buck for all this stuff - so I have to get a little creative from time to time. This is one of those times.

So can anybody help with some dimensions?? Please:)

Nope, it's for my digger.

I found some "cheap" 440 bronze gears on Ebay and was trying to confirm if they were close enough to be modified for use in my 392 - I aksed the seller what the OD was, but he only tried to sell me a "392" gear for a hundred bucks.:( BTW the 440 gear would be EASY to convert, but thanks to the HAMB I now know that the LA gear is the same which I dug around on the net and found even cheaper.

Some days it's good to be a tightwad  :D

Now I just gotta get some 4140HT

Hey guys, I REALLY appreciate the help.!!!!

For teh record the 440 gear can indeed be made to work in a 392. Which was my plan until Whatfenders posted that the 340 gear is the same as a 392 - so I ordered a 340 gear today - 27 bucks. If for some strange reason that doesn't work out I'll get a 440 gear and machine the end off so it's the same as a 392 gear.

I REALLY appreciate the responses - THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!! I just might figure all this **** out just yet (with your help!)
