I just finished hangin' a brake pedal and mstr cyl in my rat. (31 chev pickup) I got the hanger and pedal from a 60's vintage chev truck, some of the other freebie parts came from a s-10 I junked and a Lincoln town car rearend with disc brakes. The front axle, steering box and column were from a 73 dodge pickup. I bought it for 75 bucks, stripped the wire loom, steering parts, wheels and tires and radiator then junked the rest for 125 bucks. My 350 is a trade part I got for an ole modified frame, (which was a freebie). My favorite thing about this project is the challenge of finding parts and keeping the cost at a minimum. I'm shooting for a total cost on this rat of under 1k.

RAT?!?! The only Rats in the car world I know of are in the engine bay of a cheby, or in the Junk yard.

The term "Rat Rod" pertains to a car built that is NOT safe, sh1ty welds ... etc

Sounds like fun. I've picked three f100 trucks clean to get the pieces for my (OT) 1966 pickup. Always pull your own parts, the scrap yard guys will cut off expensive rare parts to pull a cheap common part.

hahahaha That should stur up some trouble!

Hey man if you can build a safe raliable hot rod for less than a grand more power to you! Post some pics.

  8. No ratrods were invented in the 90s by gold chainers.

In the day the cops wouldnt let you on the street with the junk I see at runs today.

We called them cop bait. If an unpainted raty rod showed up on the loop, the red lights would be blinkin within one pass.

  9. Hey resto, let's see some pics. Sounds like you have the right idea.

  11. Good God, I hope you spend the bulk of that on brakes, steering, and decent tires. I've got nothing against doing things on a budget - hell I'm tighter than a frog's ass (that's watertight you know) sometimes but I won't skimp on anything that's going to compromise safety.

As an aside, I personally don't care what you call your car but the term "rat rod" really riles the troops around these parts. Do a search for "rat rod" and see what pops up. Interesting reading.

If it's a white rat, you'd better not listen to any Ramones. Poof!
