S10 - T-5 tail housing use for front shift position what other issues to put together other than rear housing ? : > S10 Parts questions: Tailshaft housing: 1) Speedo driven gear in wrong position, After certain year did S10 housing change for electronic or just sensor instead of gear?. I was told I could shim Ford gear and Epoxy to match S10 casting speedo "port".. 2) Is tailshaft bushing ID / OD different than Ford T5 DS Yoke OD ?. Easy fix?. 3) S10 T5 Shift shaft in "****** top cover" for forward shifter ?? - Need to use top cover (shifter fork ***y) from S10 ? . 4) Where is the rear motor mount/****** mount relative to Ford T5?. What "application" GM mount is typical / usable ?. Thanks I. A. for any responses and feel free to add any "issues " I missed.... Thanks Powerband [IMG]

  3. I just finished converting a electronic speedo S-10 to a mechanical speedo S-10. You'll need the mech. speedo extension housing, because the housing for the electronic speedo is at a different angle. I went to the local ****** shop and was able to pic up the correct extension housing and the output shaft that I needed. You could make the electronic output shaft work without much trouble. You'd have to find the correct hole location and drill the locating hole for the clip. The output shaft for the electronic speedo has an alignment hole under the tone ring, but it's too large, and in the wrong location.
You'll also need the S-10 top cover, and the shifter- unless you go aftermarket. It sounds like you're using a mustang T-5? If so, the shifter has a longer mounting flange than the S-10. I had an S-10 shifter, but I didn't need the bends that they have. And I had a mustang shifter that is short and straight with two threaded holes to bolt the shifter to, but the mount wouldn't work on the S-10 housing. So I blew them both apart and used the best pieces from each. Worked like a charm.
The trans mount is a typical GM mount. They're about $10 at the local parts house.
If you have any more questions, PM me. I've got a pile of pictures from when I did mine. I'm planning on doing a tech. piece on the conversion, but just haven't gotten time.

wrenchbender so you swapped out the shifter parts also . I was thinking of remaking the shifter for a short throw . I never thought i could swap those parts also . This would be a really good tech article you should do one. . Doing this has placed the trans in a great position for my 31 A Sedan and after this pic some mods will let me move it forward a couple more inches .

Jeep shifter has different pattern than S10 or Mustang.

Can't remember, but I *think* S10 & Camaro are same, but I wouldn't bet anything significant on it....simply don't remember.

  7. Different shift pattern or different bolt pattern?
Sorry for hijacking the thread but I'd really like to be able to put the top mount shifter on one of these.
Same for a mustang ****** if possible.

  8. The Mustang shifter ***embly bolts to the extension housing with 4 bolts, so does the S-10. THe difference is, the mount for the Mustang shifter is longer than the S-10. All you need to do is bend the tabs back (carefully) and dis***emble the shifter. Do the same with both shifters and mix & match the parts you need. It's also a good time to clean and lube everything. I've now got an S-10 shifter with a short, straight stick. Like a said in my earlier post, the mustang stick has two threaded holes for bolting a shifter to is- a lot like a Hurst or aftermarket shifter does. It's just easier to put a custom shifter on the Mustang stick.

  9. Here's my S-10 T5 with the Mustang hybrid shifter.

  10. The S10 shifter is a short throw compared to a stock mustang shifter because it comes from the factory with a 2 foot long stick. Aftermarket shifters are even shorter however and have shifter stops to keep you from bending the shift forks.

I am putting a T5 eventually into my 49 chevy.

  11. Both shifters are the same length from the pivot ball to the end of the shaft. The Mustang stick better suits my needs, is all.
