For a 55 - 64 chevy rear. I was given a link, and searched elsewhere, but online they all want me to buy new cylinders with the kits. I just need the hardware. Any online sources you know of?

did you try your Friendly Local Auto Parts Store?

also make sure you know what year you're working on they made some changes, 59 went to 2" wide shoes, 63 went to self adjusting

I did and he said he could order all the parts seperately if I knew what they were, but there was no kit. I only tried two shops. I'll keep hunting. I have a 59, so thanks for the info on the shoes.

hows it going jim? how is the bubble top coming & did you get the fender on the truck straightened out?

Bendix PN H7020 11.99+ shipping from Advance Auto Parts

    Check Partsamerica.com or advanceautoparts.com

They usually have free shipping over $50, so I save myself some back trouble and let the UPS man bring heavy stuff to the door.

  6. I was about to say, Advance had them for me on the shelf when I put Bendix brakes on the front of my '50 - I think he had to look them up in the computer for '62 Chevy rear brakes. Adjusters, too. It all fit like it was supposed to on the car -

thats a good question. surely there are plenty of bel air owners who've left the rears in their cars and know a little about these drums. and thanks for the links everyone.

  8. Any chance they could be found in the "HELP" section - or similar - at your local parts house?

I found all the little bits and pieces for the Ford 9" in my 32 that way.
A few years back, granted, (15 years?) but it looks like I can do the same for the 9" rear axle brakes in the present project.

Seems like that era Chevy ought to be almost as popular as the Ford.

  9. I haven't been in a store with more than half a row of the most popular HELP stuff in a long time. By the time you special ordered half the stuff in that line it's just as easy to get a kit - and like I said, they had kits on the shelf, it's just a matter of either coming up with a part number on your own, or knowing what car to have them lookup the part for.

Pep Boys advertises that they carry everything. I needed a wheel cylinder kit for an 84' Audi 5000S. Lo and behold, they had it in stock. Did the same for brakes shoes for a 57' Chevy. They had those too.
