I'm interested in a repop, definitely. And take a look at this picture that was posted. Is that the easter Bunny gettin' ready to make a p***?

    WOW!

these pics sure do prove that not all 'TRADITIONAL HOT RODS' had roof chops & ran without fenders (& everyone's wearing white t-shirts not black, I need a new wardrobe).

    thanks heaps for posting these.

For those of you who want to know, Ray Erickson was the first president of the KCTA, and is still very active with hot rods and customs. In fact, Radical
Ray is a member of the Misfits Midwest here in Kansas City. I'm proud to have him as a friend, and you truly could not meet a nicer guy. He has also been a valuable resource, and he has given me a lot of ***istance with my projects over the past few years. Ray is a living encyclopedia of hot rod knowledge.

I'm trying to figure out how many would have to be reproduced at what price in order to recoup setup fees, in case anyone's interested.

By the way, you may want to take that original book to a Kinko's and have them quote you out a price - not only can they reproduce it with high quality color copies, but they also can bind it just as the original one was.

Honestly, that may be your best bet. Never spend 30 minutes on a .05 cent bolt.

Ya I been thinking about this printing thing too.

I'm a designer by trade and always have about 4-5 pieces at the local printer each week, real press stuff. The repo book I got from John was that just a color copy and stapled together, a reduced to fit the paper but also not even trimed out. The quality was very poor due it being just that, a cheap quick copy, it served it purpose.

    The new repop book:
What if we used an original book, pulled Hi-Rez scans, color corrected and ran on a press. Added an additional chapter of these kick *** vintage photos, some jackets and trophys, then asked the KCTA reunion guys to add a couple interviews and updates. Maybe even shoot a coulpe of the surviving cars. Plus if we were real slick, burned a CD of that sweet vintage footage and inserted that into the back cover. ???

I think it would be cool only if it was a non-profit thing. Maybe the cost is around $20 but procededs go to H.A.M.B, The American Hot Rod Foundation and of course the K.C.T.A. reunion guys.

I would volunteer my time, Maybe the Ad Agency I'm at could do some pro-bono for scans. I could pull some printers who owe me in too.
We would need some help, any thoughts, idears? Is it worth it?

    Whatch all think?

And no I'm not a member or affiliated with the K.C.T.A. reunion guys. I was just one of those kids who heard the stories of the track before my time. Had family who worked at Carl's Speed Shop in its early days and some respect for our midwest hot rod history.

KCTA Chris name was hope maybe that ther would be a small rebirth, perhaps a KCTA Joe, KCTA Bob ect. Kinda like a car club... well without the ****.

I think the whole not for profit thing sounds like a noble pursuit- I'd be interested in working on something following those lines. It would be a really great experience gathering info for an extension of the book too. It might be a good idea to call Ray up and some of the old club presidents around, see what can be gathered up?

Once you know what you want to do tasks could be separated out for everyone. If a lot of people are interested a lot could done, it would just be a little work per person you know? Be a good way for local rodders to get to know one another a little better. Should come together pretty good as long as money thing stays out of it, you know how that goes.

    Just some thoughts

I remember going to the old drag strip on Friday and Saturday nights after taking a date home. Would show up around 12-1am and race for an hour or so and hope I didn't drop a clutch or ****** gear or u-joint and have to call the old man. He would have not been happy. This was in the late fifties/early sixties and I was driving a 58 Impala with the 348 and three-twos. It was a wreck my dad and I rebuilt and I was very lucky to have such a "late model". Can remember one night I pulled up next to a Studebaker Lark thinking what an easy race. He blew me off. Turns out he was running a J2 Olds engine, also with three-twos. The good old days! Now I'm the old man.

Sounds great! I love the idea of collecting the stories from the original members. Its a great way of preserving the history. Probably more people than you think would be interested in the book.

    128 pages guys.
Mine is virtually brand new and is not a copy. I got it from one of the original guys that was involved in the track building. I have already removed all the staples and other than one wrinkle on the cover, it is stunning. I am game to loan it to reputable shop to work with. Please email me at thand@kc.rr.com and let's do it! Be good for the HAMB drags in Pittsburg.

After looking through this, I see it has a wealth of names and places of interest to local HAMB guys. I will be glad to work with whomever can help reproduce this for the benefit of all.

My father, John Povenmire, made copies of this book. He got an original from a former KCTA member in Idaho and made the copies that are the most recent reproductions.

He still has some available if anyone is interested. They are $10 a piece. You can call him at 816-254-5362.

I've spend quite a bit of time in KC & know a few of the old timers, so I'd love a copy, if John has any left.

    thx,
