It looks great on that 4 door, so many ppl are quick to shoot down, its retarded. Laid55 that is one of the coolest nomads ive seen, and they look great with whites, i like thin or thick whites.

  2. Here's a pic of my 55 from around 1975. I always liked the Crager SS too on the right car/time period.

I personally own about 6 sets...ranging from F.U.B.A.R.'ed to pretty darn nice.

I once worked for a guy who's motto in the used car biz was "put a set of Cragars on it and watch it drive away!"

Hell yeah they are cool, but any wheel can look like ass when not used right. Depending on year, theme and stance they can be classic and cool.

A customer of mine bought a set for his '34 5 window project. I told him to buy cast Torq Thrusts, and he brought me those tacky things. It killed the look of the car. I don't think I want to work on it any more.

Crager SS and blackwalls only....Steelies and wide whites yeah. I agree with TFEVERFRED about mags on a stock appearing four door though. Go with the steelies and whites, spider caps maybe and skinnie trim rings!!!!

A funny story about the first picture, it was taken at a car show that took place on the other side of my st. in the empty field thats there.
the second pic is from my driveway that is about 20ft away from the original photo. Who woulda thunk that i would end up living right across the street.

All that Red Lemans with shiny window pillar trim needs is a Silver Metalflake roof instead of that high contrast flat black and to be lowered level all around.

It's a "sporty" body design with it's open wheel wells front and rear and distant GTO relation so "sporty" wheels like Cragers work fine, definitely with the skinny whites.

I always considered the Crager S/S wheel to be a cross over wheel between custom and racer style.
They look racy great on a stock or gasser height '57 Chevy with black walls and they look more custom with skinny whites on a cruiser.
I prefer Astro Supremes on a custom/cruiser but the Crager is and was very popular in both racer and custom applications where as a Supreme was just a custom wheel and looked odd on a racer, besides, I don't think the Supreme was ever "approved for drag racing" when the Crager was. (I may be uninformed on that one.)

I always thought the S/S looked great- it was the quick rusting and unilug crap that nixed the deal for me. Keystone and Appliance made a knockoff that was superior in quality.

try skinny whites on a set of supremes and lay it on the ground. Radirs are very cool too (my favorite)! I agree, Cragers with red lines or not at all.

I'm doing a 60's type car , so either Cragers or aluminum slots would have worked, but I picked up a set of Cragers on epay last year for the 55 Pontiac. I got real lucky, they are an older set whan Crager was making them better than what they are now, probably 20 years old. I paid $60 for 2 15 x 10 non unilug wheels. Went and picked them up, to my surprise, they had never even had lugnuts against the wheels , tires were mounted up once , pretty much NOS.

It's all in the lugnuts to keep them from flaking off at least in that area. What are you guys using for lugnuts? I talked to a wheel guy, said something about wavy washers under the lugnuts?

What cool about a heavy wheel that the chrome rusts on the rim and flakes off the center?

I do think they were out in -63 actually... Anyway I think the early ones (up to ?) had a little different rim profile than the later. Anyone else that knows what I'm gettin at? Used to have a pair of 15 x 7" old ones, wonder where they went...
