I'm fairly new, this thread may have been posted before, but I haven't seen it. I appoligize if its been done. I would just like to see what people think, with out starting a war or getting anyone upset. I am looking for a friendly discusion. Everyone has there own opinions, I know I do. My truck has been labeled a rat rod numerous times, I consider it a traditonal hot rod for the most part. Everything on the truck is pre 50' and built for the most part the way my father has or would back in the day. Excpet the seat until I can find one that is right. What is a Rat Rod? Why? Let me know what you all think.

  2. why do you feel you must define what your car is? you built it , drive it and enjoy it

If you could post a pic of your car it would be helpful. If you built your car to the best of your ability and it is as safe and reliable as you could make it using old parts I think its a cool car. If you had the option of doing things right but chose to half-*** some things to make it more "rat-like" or if you "faked" a patina on the body by spray canning it to look worse than it did when you started, or somehow intentionally making it rustier, then it's a rat rod.

I have noticed the older "street rodders", ( guy in his 50's or 60's), will call nearly all traditional hot rods "rat rods" unless it has nice wheels or a nice paint job. My .02 cents.

  7. Hello, I'm not a Dr. but I play one on the HAMB. It's my sad duty to inform you that this thread only has a very short time to live. There's nothing more that I can do, it's in the hands of a higher authority than me.

Seriously, do a search for "rat rod" and you'll find several threads about the topic. I'm willing to bet that most, if not all, of them are closed

  8. Is that what Wilde meant by "the love that dare not speak its name"?

I believe Tommy said he was rather new... as am I. Why would this thread be closed? I thought it was a legitimate question. It's not like he's saying... "hey, I'm new around these parts.... take a look at my rat rod... I fit right in!!"

Give the guy a break and answer his questions... not everyone knows that a there is a difference between "rat" and "traditional".

I'm heading out to do the search myself.
But, I have to say. I'm pretty confused now too....... That fine line seems to be moving more than a ******'s waggle.....

  14. There's a difference and the reasons for it are a hot ****on issue. I'm not going to go into but I encourage you to do a search and read some past threads. This subject is *****ly as religious politics, neither one of which we talk about here.

    Read those threads, you'll learn...
