Oh, im going to hold back on my DMV rage.... I hate the California DMV with a p***ion.

By the way, I was whining about the CA DMV months ago in a different thread related to getting the new motorsickle I built registered. Nothing but hoops. For now, i've tired of the hoops.... thus i'm riding with a undated temporary operating permit that I "found." It's real "unfortunate" that the DMV forgot to date it, as in my mind that makes it valid for whatever day I remember they issued it to me.

It's real unfortunate that a LAME ***, PATHETIC DMV ORGANIZATION forces good guys into having to "stretch the rules" in order to live. Unfortunately for me, it's either do that-- or waste more hours playing DMV games that I dont have time to do,,, or i'm sure they'd be fine if I registered a new Honda or something...

That book is not correct.. The number is on the frame under the floor on the p***enger side... It is in an old style font... I just got rid of an original frame or I would show you a picture...The car was an original 1926 model T and the engine number matched the frame number...I have three 1926 model T's and all had the number in the same spot. I would not argue the point of no number with any DMV..In the early days there were no rules.. Some had it, some didn't. The VIN location is listed in several restoration books as on the frame under p***. floor. RustyNewyorker has a book called the standard catalog of american cars.It is very good on vin info... you can try pm'ing him for info.. EVILT

    Wow, that ****s ***.

This wont make you feel any better. For my 35 PU, I took a copy of my original ***le (signed over to my Uncle in the late 70s), my insurance verification, and the pile of reciepts and my picture album of its build. They didnt even want to take the time to look at the reciepts or pictures other then the 1st one I showed. They ran the Vin for stolen, then gave my a ***le in mine and my Uncle's name, and a tag. All I gotta do is actually drive the truck up to them so they can inspect the frame to see that the numbers on the frame rail actually match the ***le. Took me all of 45 minutes, and $55.

good info- that matches up with what Model T Haven told me also. These DMV guys are just LAME, thinking they're car guys because they inspect cars.
That's like people eating at restaurants thinking they're gourmet chefs.

I'm going to gather all this up and go back and present it to them, whether they will give me a tritle or not, just so they know for future reference that they're *****s :D

    thanks guys

So let me get this straight. I'm driving my 2004 Chevy Tahoe and get rear ended hard enough to require that the frame gets replaced. Would this make my Tahoe a 2007?

Was your car from out-of-state? I re-registered a 31' Model A, California car, through AAA no problem. I will never go back to DMV. I also won't buy an out-of-state car because of the h***el.

  11. Actually I've been using various Krause books... in this case, Standard Catalog of Ford would work. The info can be spotty, best to get the most recent revision - you can try eBay for a bargain or just drop the $25 on a new one, most of your Borders or Barnes & Noble carry them. I did try to buy the American Cars book once, and the USPS lost it. Sometimes when they give the serial location, they say "same as previous year" and you have to go back 4, 5 years to find where it's supposed to be.

I think the solution in Nevada is just going to be to either have a ***le and a frame that match, or take your project car down and ***le it before you build it, then change whatever you want. Or cut out any stamped frame number and weld it into your frame in the correct location and clean the welds up real nice. The next guy buying it may have issues if you don't go that step, but then you just sell out of state to beat that. And I'd bring with me at least three books with good info to show them.

It's possible these DMV people looked at someone else's project not long before this one and thats why your numbers don't match for style or location, they're all experts because they looked at one other guy's car. Who stamped it on the left side.

Yes, the Nevada DMV has become a real hell since the budget "crisis" from a few years back... Fees, Taxes, BS, and long lines are what you'll get now!!! Maybe too many Californians and New Yorkers are working there now....

  14. Well maybe they think that because they stayed at a Holiday Inn? Anyway - what a nightmare!

I am in Reno, Nevada also. I called Broadway ***le and they will be able to get a ***le for a 39 chevy truck no questions asks. I just need to fill out very simple one page form plus $150.00 for a truck plus a few other small fees. They get the truck registered in their name in Nevada. Then sell the truck back to me..... Sounds to easy....:D

Wow, this really ****s. After failing at my first two attempts at the DMV I finally got it right. All I did was walk in with a piece of paper with a VIN written on it. I told the lady I bought an old car from a farmer with no ***le, no bill of sale. I gave her the VIN she entered it in the computer and handed me some paperwork. All I had to do was jot down a story about how I got the car, how much I payed, area where I got it, etc. The next week they called and the VIN checked out, I payed my taxes and fees ($105) and walked out with a brand new, clean 1931 ***le with my name on it. Couldn't have been easier. Hope somehow this works out for you. I'm about to register my roadster the exact same way.

  17. Truth is that most T frames dont have a number, if they did you cant read em. There are ways around your ****ed up state.

    HAHA... VERY FUNNY  ...

Maybe they are from minnisota and there brain isnt thawed out yet:D

I dunno what you guys do to piss them off, I have done 2 myself & have directed MANY more on how to do it with NO PROBLEMS !!

My buddy's just did a '20 Dodge, '30 Ford Panel Truck, '66 Ranchero that was G***er style with a Front suspension stub, '28 Roadster to name a few.

The main thing to do is TELL THEM WHAT THEY WANNA HERE...Not some big story about how & where it came from....And the ***les you buy are a waste of money... We do all ours with the Vin #

But then, we all use original frames.... No monkey Tube frames

I've ran into this a bunch of times. NEVER bring your hot rod to NV DMV! They are a bunch of tards and don't know anything. You need to have the VIN verification form completed by LE or a garage. You can download the form here:

    http://www.dmvnv.com/pdfforms/rd15.pdf

I'm headed up to Gardnerville / Reno tomorrow with my '34 coupe. (I'm buying a home there and opening up a new hot rod shop) If you want to contact me I can help you out with the reg. PM me here or e-mail al@hotrod-central.com.
