I read someplace that container ships coming in to port in the US from overseas were loaded with cheap goods of all kinds. The only real commodity the US sends out now on those ships to overseas-- is s**** iron. Why? Because they ain't got it, and we do. Sad.

Per the rules, I don't want to get into politics. If anyone cares as to what I have to say, PM me. I have A LOT to say.

  2. I wonder how cheap the Chinks could build a nuclear warhead...I'm just sayin'.

Bought a part once that had a sticker which read - 'engineered in USA, manufactured in Taiwan, ***embled in Mexico'. How's that for global - it's here to stay. My son works at a refinery here in Ca and they use lots of stainless steel components. The prices are going up by leaps and bounds because China is buying SS like crazy with their growing economy. Maybe someday China will become like Japan and want to buy up American hot rods. I've seen lots of cars at swaps sold and headed to foreign lands.

A year ago I used to work at a Limestone manufacturing plant. We quarried our own stone blocks, trucked it to the plant, and cut/split it into stone building materials. Word was that it was CHEAPER to ship the stone blocks to China, have them cut it up, and ship it back as product than we could do it here in USA. That's effed up.

You get what you pay for?

I wish it would be that easy.
You buy that $100 ratchet because you think it is better than the China **** because it is way more expensive.

But what do you get? A $10 ratchet and a $90 brand/manufacter logo.

Buying brand/american/german/whatever quality is not was it was before.

The bigest oldtimer magacine here in Germany did a test in one of the last issiues.

They did a standard DIN test on industry test equipment(when will it bend/break - how close is it to specs and so on)

15 or so wrenches from $1 India made up to Hazet/Gedore/Stahlwille legendary German industry tools, $28 a wrench.

I have to confess I was surprized.

The winner - as expected the $28 Hazet
second place the $1 India no name wrench.

    The difference was absolute minimal.

Also surprizing on one of the the last places was Snap On.

I was always swearing on Snap on since I have some Snap on tools (made in the 60s and 70s) from my grandpa and they are outstanding quality.

    Realy gives me some headscratching.

I als have great experiance with midprice tools from KS-Tools. They are china made but they are close to the quality of my vintage Snap on stuff.

It all boils down to one thing, you get what you pay for.You want nice fresh food, you shop at markets where retailers can tell you exactly where the veges were grown, the meat was prepared etc.you want good tools? ,you spend time researching where they were made and inspect them closely .Eventually if more of us in the west move in this direction we will eventually force the Chinese ,taiwanese etc to make better goods. And guess what is happening right this minute?
The Chinese are looking for places to make cheaper products!!!! It's damn true! and guess where the Chinese are setting up their own sweat shop factories? ....Veitnam and Cambodia!!.
The Chinese are finding that with capitalism comes social growth and the peoples lust for a better lifestyle, which then costs money,so they are now looking for cheaper labour.
There are over 100 automakers in China now, indigenous companies, not counting foreign companies like BMW which build more BMW's there than in Germany.5 years ago there were less than 5 million cars in China,in ten years China will consume more gasoline than the USA ...You are already subsidising the cheap fuel the Chinese are burning.

As i have said before...Cheap goods will always come at a high price.

A lot of truth in here... if you want a real good look at China, their economy, and how it evolved and what's real and what isn't, grab a copy of "China, Inc." Dispells a lot of myths, too.

A discussion a friend and me were having about this subject centered on the su****ion that the U.S. dollar is actually being intentionally pushed lower in value to squeeze the balls of the Chinese who hold a huge amount of our bucks now. Eventually, if it's worth declines enough, it'll force them to dump their dollars at a huge loss. It'll cause some pain on our end for the short term, but when the dust settles, the foreign investments come rolling back into the USA because we're such a bargain, investments in China slow down because their ridiculously cheap yuan won't be so cheap any more.... and just like was said above, even the Chinese will be looking for even cheaper labor markets to exploit.

    But it's all just a theory.:D

So does Harbor Freight have ANYthing that doesn't break, melt or send you into epileptic seizures?

  9. They have really good tools, supplied by us. We also give them really good technology. So, our money funds their military build-up, and our technology provides the ability to achieve it. And they're poisoning us with their products. We're shooting ourselves in the ****.
