I'm gonna be in Phoenix to see my pops for about 48 hours Monday & Tuesday. Anyone know of a cool dive bar to catch up and have a few cold ones with the old man? Thanks.

    Rogue Bar West.
    3593 W. Northern Ave., Phoenix.

Shadys (T.T.'s Roadhouse owners second bar)
2701 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix

Seamus McCaffrey's Irish Pub & Restaurant
18 West Monroe, Phoenix, AZ 85003

The above in addition to TT's in Scottsdale should give you a good cross section of our valley.

well I want a dive bar because that's my comfort zone. Dont get me wrong-I love dressing up in a hand-tailored suit with all the right vintage accessories as much as the next guy. It's just that I'm a fully tattooed criminally minded individual and I'm seeing my dad for the 4th time in 20 years and he's a reformed hotrodder from the fifties and I just figured that a cool lil dive bar would suit our needs just right. NEAT TRICK: whenever I enter a bar I'm not familiar with, I saunter up to the juke, slip in a fiver, and hit the "P" ****on as many times as I've got credit. this will play the 20, 25, or 30 (or however many credits ya get for $5) most popular songs. I cant count how many times a local has come up after song #4 and asked how I knew the hits of that particular juke! buy 'em a beer and soon ya got 2 comin back at ya and the inevitable dislike of a non-local is disipating into the smokey haze.

Oh, and danger is my name!

If your in Chandler/Gilbert area. Try Iguana Mac's on Alma School between Warner and Ray on the East side of the road.

TT is good but its in Scottsdale.

We hang out at the Darkhorse on Rural and Ray Road in Chandler

The Bikini Lounge, at 15th Ave and Grand Ave. in central Phoenix. A tiki style dive, been there since the '60s.

You may want to mention that this is a pretty bad part of town.

You're right, the Bikini Lounge is in a pretty bad part of town, then again, you don't usually find true dive bars in upscale areas.

Hey, is The Melody Lounge still up on Scottsdale Road, just north of the river bottom? Been tossed out of there a time or two before.

The Bikini is in a bad part of town? Wow. I guess I am tougher than I thought. Never felt weird in that bar or part of town, then again, I have lived in Central Phoenix since before the yuppies decided they hated to commute to go to work. There has been less gun fire lately than the past few decades...I guess that is good? It isn't Troon North, but it is hardly Westwood on Indian and 19th either.

I second the vote for the Rhythm Room, but that place is best reserved for live music, particularly for a band you want to check out. Not necessarily a dive bar as much as it is just a great place to enjoy music and have a good time.

Bikini Lounge IS cool. Rhythm Room, Char's, yep, all good.

Emerald Lounge is long gone, heard it is a new bar now?! I swear, you'd walk into that place and immediately forget that Phoenix is outside, more like....Baltimore, never been to Baltimore but.....

Those are/were my favorites, although I don't get out much.

Ooooo, ooo, almost forgot, Casey Moores in Tempe (9th st. and Ash?) is AWESOME! Old, supposedly haunted, house with great outdoor patio area. It's Tempe, so of course, it's very bicycle friendly, you always see cool vintage beater bikes at the entrance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Also try Yucca Tap Room for some PBR and live bands.

That's OK, it'll be a nice compliment to our new Light Rail.
