Well, there you go. Also, if someone were to get hurt hanging out in their parking lot, guess who would get sued? Yea, it sucks that it happened, but they are just protecting themselves.

Some of you will bitch and whine until you're blue in the face and need to grow up a little and look at this from a business owners perspective.

Target's parking lot is private property and they have NO obligation to let you use it for anything other than the purpose of parking your damn car so you can go inside to shop. Your presence might cause a few people to stop but you're fooling yourself if you think that you add much to their bottom line.

If you're boycotting Target because they won't let you congregate, you might as well start boycotting just about every other business in your town. When you find a place that supports what you want to do you need to repect that offer of generosity because that's what it is, a generous offer and not your right to loiter on private property.

1st if target is part of a mall strip or otherwise they can't chase you out of the lot. If it is a fee standing store with nothing else around then yea. If they have other bussniess in the lot like a fast food joint or resturant then you need to approch them most would die to have a group of customers loyal enough to show up on a friday night and spend there money at there place. If it is a good size goup that shows up then hey talk with a couple of people maybe a smaller strip mall with a couple of resturants and a bar. I am sure they would love to have a steady crowd any night of the week show up.

I'm pretty sure any red blooded American knows by now that the Salvation Army doesn't represent any army of force.

My guess for not letting the Salvation Army do their thing is because every other charitable organization would expect, if not demand, the same treatment ...So, unless I'm wrong, they don't let anyone do it.

  10. Here in Joplin, the cruise-in just got shuffled.....from a shopping center parking lot, sponsored by Ryan's Steak House. One person told me the
reason was that kids of either participants and/or spectators would go into
the stores.....mainly Toys R Us......and make a mess of things by playing with the merchandise. And probably using the restrooms. That's all I've heard, may be true, maybe not.

Now the cruise has moved down to 32nd Street to the parking lot of a former Smitty's supermarket, sponsored by a convenience store on the corner of the lot. Problem with this spot appears to be a lack of total space due to the fairly heavy turnout of old cars on the third Saturday night of each month.

A fellow I know told me he parked across the street as a spectator. 32nd is a pretty busy road.....so hopefully no onlooker will get run over. The cruise has been in several different locations over the past several years.....one next to a Sonic and one next to a local burger joint......but for some reason these eventually fell thru. Someone suggested they should move it to a city park.......don't know what that would entail, I guess conferring with the city council. Ah, well.

I too miss the Friday night cruise in at Target. I have been going there for several years. I have never seen anyone being disrespectful or rowdy. I rarely even saw anyone getting squirrelly. Yeah, a few tuner kids crankin' the bass(but the hot girlfriends offset that!!!) The worst part was trying to park the car with all of the "spectators" not paying attention. About 3 weeks ago I counted about 340 cars. That is going to be hard to transplant. I did hear that they were moving to Wally World, but, I didn't get a chance to check it out this Friday.

It has more to do with not making paying customers feel obligated to give to the Salvation Army than anything else. To leave the store you have to pass the red can and people feel guilty to not give so they give even if they don't really want to (for what ever reason). So under their own guilt they give and some people feel it's out of duress and stores don't want their customers feeling obligated to give a charity anything by coming to the store.

Haven't been in a Target for many years. Ever since I walked in looking for the latest Guns And Ammo mag..lady was there updating the magazines and I asked her where they were. She says Target doesn't allow the sale of 'gun related' magazines. I said, But their name is TARGET!! She started laughing, never thought of that!! Never been back since...buttholes!!!

Target is controlled by left-wingers from the Peoples Republic of Minnesota. And, Snopes is as far to the left as Target management. Read the text of their "False" statements concerning Target and it's clear that the "Urban Myths" are at least partially true. (Except the one about being French-owned).

Seriously, get off it..I'm ex military and so is my family and a lot of my friends, and Target has rules they have to go by.The storefront itself can't just hand out cash(unless you got a reciept and need a refund) and donations need to be taken up with the corporate office which has a charity and donations program(which they donate hundreds of thousands to local schools that the state doesn't provide for),so get of the liberal lefty bullshit and lets not make this a political argument...

your problem isn't with Target. your problem is with either the rent a cop and/or the manager. i did retail management for many years and if you ask to speak to a manager and they won't see you instantly find the regional/ district manager. they are there to correct the fuck ups of the store managers and one word from you that a store manager refused to speak to you and they'll flip.

i'm sure if the location is that good some adult talking will get you the use of the spot. someone is probably gonna have to buck up and volunteer to make sure everything stays safe/calm and to clean up afterwards EVERYTIME. that probably has alot to do with it if there is that large a gathering. i'd say if there were fights, people were taking the close parking spaces, people were leaving a mess, and things like that even being a car guy in that situation i'd probably not want it there either. BE RESPECTFUL. have a coupla people that keep things on the calm level and ask for volunteers to clean up after each cruise. it is THEIR parking lot and they are alowing you to use it for NON BUSINESS purpose(though i'm sure things are bought directly related to teh event).

if you want to be sneeky about it. a bunch of you take the wives/girlfriends next time. let them call the cops. when the cops come all you have to say is your just a bunch of guys chatting while the said wives/girlfriends and doing business with the store that just called the cops on you. i'll bet the cop has the manager standing there for that. if it's the rent a cop's bullshit the manager will pull his head out of his ass when he has to pull buying customers from the store to evict you from the parking lot...ken....

I honestly don't blame them, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. that friday cruise nite took up a TON of thier parking space and was beginning to overflow into the surrounding lots too. Very good turnouts, but I wouldn't even drive a "good" car up there due to the tight spaces and tons of "ordinary" people walking around/between the show cars....

    Seems simple...

Go to another place. Target seems like a lame cruise destination anyway. Find a diner or fast food place where everyone can buy food and walk around the cars while they eat.

I'm sure it was not a "corporate" decision. If the manager called something that lame into the main office, they'd definitely question his decision making abilities. I'm sure it was a matter of taking up customer parking spaces and maybe trash. It sucks as a business to have to pay somone to pick up trash that came from non-customers.

Bottom line... go somewhere else. Lots of places would be stoked with the bodies on their property. Target doesn't need neat cars in the lot to bring in business. Mom and Pop Diner does.

P.S. I hate when stores let beggars set up shop outside of their store. I think it's very rude to confront me and ask for money. I'm a very charitable person, but not when you get in my face and try to guilt me into it.

I see two seperate problems mentioned here........ 1) they banned cruising
    2) they ban a shopper who happens to drive an old car.

They can ban cruising based on crowds, etc..... I get that. To be banned individually based on your car is discrimination, and any lawyer would have fun with that.

So sorry that you lost your meeting spot. I hope you find a location that is just as good if not better for you and your friends.

    Some facts about Target:

Target is not a French company. I think this point has been clearly stated.

    Philanthropy:

Since the day they opened Target has given 5% of their income to organizations that seek to make positive changes in education, social services and the arts. To date %5 equals $3 million donated per week. Per week! I think you would be hard pressed to find another retail company that gives back as much as Target.

    Check out:

    http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-001811

to see how Target is directly affecting your community.

There are a lot of big corporations doing a lot of nasty things to the world. Some affect us on a global level. I think that it is a big bummer that you guys have to relocate and I agree that they owe you an explanation. But it is hard for me to get behind a ban when Target does some much good for so many people. I'm sure that you feel put out I will continue to support Target, and I'm proud that Minnesota is home to such a progressive company.

A sincere and heart-felt good luck to you and your friends, but I would take a close look at why you are starting a ban on Target. I think if you have to shop somewhere Target is a much better choice than the other big box retail alternative.
