Coupe Progress pics!!!!!!!!! TECH???

Wow, I can finally get on the Hamb again. I've been having that stupid thing where I sign in, and it immediatly signs me off again.... but now that I've got that figured out, I can throw some pictures on here to show I'm actually getting the car done.

Ok. so the last time it was on here, Bob and I had just finished up the frame, and the motor and Body were just sitting on there.

Here's how it was when I got it...

Since then, I tore into the motor, an looked over it to see that it would work. the cylinder walls looked great, and I could see that it had been rebuilt before. So that and Crestliner's telling me that it was running a few years ago, makes me think that it should work out well.

Once I got that done, I did the same thing to the transmission (which I got from Jaker and I believe is out of a 62 or 63 Fairlane, but I'm not sure) and it looked pretty good. So I painted them both, as well as the bellhousing (which I got from Tuck... who delivered it all the way from canada!), in a high temp black and bolted them together. I also installed my new head studs, and put my intake manifold on.

Then, I got it bolted in the frame..... which I also painted, as well as the front end and rear end parts.

So next, I got my rear brakes all apart and cleaned (still have to get them on) and I put the open drive conversion on the rear end. Getting the sleave that olds the old driveshaft to the rear end turned out to be the hardest part.

Then the body went back on... and it was time for the floor and pedals.

I got a 40 ford pedal assembely with the car, and Bleed said that I should use a Mustang double chaimber master cylinder, because it's the safer alternative.. so I had to figure out a way to make the two mate together. So I came up with this idea that mounts them off of the transmission crossmember... The small box is made out of 1/4" plate, and it's a 4x4 square. I drilled and tapped the holes, and then modified the rod so that it can be bolted to my pedals.

I threaded a piece of hexagon stock, and ran a die over the end of the rod, and locktited it on there. So now it's nice and adjustable, and it should work out ok. I also made up my lutch linkage, but I made it too weak, and it will most likely fold over when I push down the clutch (no clutch in it yet)... so it's going to have to be made over... but it's all a part of the learning process.

Next came the floor.

I decided to use some 3/4" square tubing, because that's what Bleed used on the Roadster pickup, and even though it might be overkill, I'd rather have it stronger than it needs to be. So bob explained on how I should lay out my grid, and where it should tie into the body, and I went home and started on it.

First I got the frame up on jackstands, and shimmed them so that the whole thing sat perfectly level. Then I got the body centered on the frame, and used one of the original body mounts as a temp mount, and welded it to the frame. Then I started on the grid. It ties into both door jams, the front of the cowl, the front part of the wheel wells in the back, and then I put in back supports as well. I still have a couple pieces to add in, but this is how it is right now.

Oh yeah, I also made up a big tall shifter out of some stainless hexagon stock, and got my firewall in.

I also started on my gas tank. I bought an 11 gallon compressed air tank at home depot for 25 bucks, pulled the air fittings off, welded a piece of 2" plumbing pipe where the regulator sat, and then turned a cast plumbing cap on the lathe to clean it up a bit.

I've gotten some other little shit done.... re-lined and rivited my brake shoes, got the generator rebuilt and cleaned up, got the distrubutor repaired and cleaned with new points and a condenser, bought a fuel pump and started monkeying around with that and a few other things I cant think of.


So thats where I'm at now. I hope it's not too many pictures, and I hope photobucket dosen't kick me off their site for too much traffic but yeah. It's actually getting done. So far the hardest part of this whole thing has been keeping my life's priorities straight. It's easy to get wrapped up into this stuff... and working on your hot rod is way more appealing than going inside and doing algebra homework... but I think i've got all that shit figured out, and now I can do both.

So Bleed and I are going to do the steering in the next couple weeks, I've got my brakes to finish, skin the floors, get my radiator mounted, make the driveshaft, get the motor finished, wire it, run my gas lines, and a few other little things, and it's drivable.

But I figured... I should post when I have something constructive to contribute, and I finally have something.

By the way, you were suppose to use the air fitting inlet as the outlet for the tank, and make a new hole for the filler........ Looks good anyway.

It's no big deal, Lieutenant Commander Bleed... Max Wedge and Berger are still putting their hands up 15 year old girl's shirts... so I figure I can get away with it until I'm at least 25.

Yeah.... it's really coming along. This hot rod stuff is a bitch. I totally thought it was going to be alot easier than it has been.... but I've never done something so rewarding. I imagine the sence of acomplishment will be incedible once it's finished..... but I've still got a ways to go.

Maybe I'll take this oppertunity to pick your guys' brains... is the oilpan that I have a normal truck pan, or has it been modified to have the large oilplug? I'm not good at this flathead stuff....
