[ QUOTE ] JimA....I really miss Titus in the Gazette. Love him or hate him, he was full of piss and vinegar and I loved his articles. ....did the gay, flat black, hillbillies on this board get to him? [/ QUOTE ] No, that wasn't the straw... but now I expect they will be after be becaust I MENTIONED that there are 1% of RAT RODS (and street rods) that are unsafe, ugly piles of rolling scrap out there. You know the cars that get torn apart on here- but still there is a SECRET CODE among the GREASER/SLAYER/MULLET MENTALITY folks to defend ALL "rat rods" as GOOD and they just cannot accept that crap exists- or at least that people in the media cannot speak ill of there bretherin. I state CLEARLY in the begining of the article that this is THE TYPE OF CARS I LIKE, BULID & OWN- but point out that it's neither INNOVATIVE or CREATIVE to just throw together a rolling junk heap and expect instant hero status- I know these wanna be brawlers don't go back five years before they were lovin' their jacked up Novas and Challengers- but the bottom line is they don't READ the words before jumpin' in the rumble. I'll do a better job defending myself than the "last guy"- It's just frustrating to have to deal with some of these "BIG THINKERS"! Thanks.
I know I'm late, but what's unusual about that. Retro I feel your pain, pal of mine had similar but much worse done to him. His friend came up with the concepts and owned the car. My buddy agreed to build it based on a single rendering of the exterior and one of the interior, which the 'owner' of the car said was his own work. I later found the interior artwork was a tracing from an early sixties magazine and the styling treatment aside from the top swap came from other images in old magazines. Anyhow my pal wanted to help his friend realize a dream and agreed to build the car on the basis that his shop would be given due credit in all the publicity. My pal worked his arse of for over two months to completely transform a stocker into one of the most radical kustoms of all time. The car has been featured in many magazines with not one single line of credit to the real builder. Although he did cop plenty of shit from the owner. Truth be that we know who did all the work to transform a drawing into metal and we have the pictures to prove it. Far as the shitfight goes, we won't forget, but we are over it and have moved on. We decided it's the best thing for everybody to just let it die and move on. Since then my pal has built a couple of even more radical cars for which he's received due kudos and is currently mid way thru the most radical kustom ever started in this country. And just to make sure everybody knows who did the work, the job was started as a public project at our Kustom Nationsla where the mint stock bodied original was sectioned six inches, chopped seven inches, roof shortened a foot and the body converted from a four door sedan to a two door coupe and welded back together. This is a good forum for making sure everybody who should know the truth does know it and can therefore act accordingly in the event they have any dealings with the perpetrator of your problem. And in the event things go bad for them, you can always then say "I told ya so!" Satisfaction doesn't always need to have a picture of a ded president on it.
LOL, some of this shit kills me. Retro all I can say is your right! And who the f&*k is this Chip dude??? Actually I know all the names but I DO NOT watch any of these damn tv shows, I call it selling out! I used to listen to Clapton, til he made a damn Michelob commercial. I have learned that no matter what, all a man has is his word. And if this piece of crap said he would give you credit then he should have, besides its obvious that his name is already made. I am a supervsor, when one of my workers does something noteworthy I acknowledge THEM and I let the upper management know it. I am not afraid of giving credit where credit is due, if they are successful then I will be too. Unfortunetly some people are so insecure no matter how successful they are. But don't worry what goes around eventually comes around. Satin PS, got a concept for a 58 Impala? I'll give you credit!
I think that's REAL fucked up that he said "if they do make it a Hot Wheels, I'll get credit cause it was my design", or whatever the fuck he said. That's bull-fucking-shit ! -Aaron
So retrofire, just wondering, next time you work with one of the "big names", what can or will you due different to; I guess the words would be; protect your design?
There are two solutions to this (in the future)....the first is, ALWAYS get a big bag of cash for your designs...then turn em over and say goodbye. The other solution is to build the car for yourself, drive it everywhere, and hand out flyers telling everyone who you are, and what you do.... This whole post is kinda like spilled milk.....don't cry about it and learn from your mistakes.
[ QUOTE ] Titus took an initial scribble and those ideas over to a more talented, more capable person who built on them, three years worth of building them. [/ QUOTE ] Retrofire's concept is well beyond a scribble, yea you were robbed.
JimA: your editorial was walking a fine line, for which i'm sure you will hear from some on either side of the fence. it seems like no matter what one writes, somebody is gonna get pissed off. you are right about some of the cars being built these days, shaky at best, but thank god i think it's a small percentage. the only good thing { i hope} is they are into the "non" rice grinder stuff. they make me gag. oh, by the way, thanks for the winged amp guage, it's perfect. if i had known you were a HAMB'er, i would not have given you a bad time on our transaction a few months ago. small world huh?. glad you like my modified.
