Hey guys, I'm in the process of installing a pristine set of 65 impala ss bucket seats and rear bench in my 55 chebbie two door post. The seats had been in heated storage for 39 years.I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount them.Does anyone have any dimensions for building mounts or risers for these seats? Also I would like to install a 4 speed SS console from a 62 -64 impala. Has anyone done this swap and will the console fit? I'm running a tremec 5 speed. All my garnish mouldings have been chromed so I'm thinking that this seat setup and console would look pretty sweet in the car.I would appreciate any help. Thanks.......Jerry
I had them in my 57 in the 80's and just bolted them down, but I dont think you can use your arm rests in the rear. The speaker grill looks good on a tri5.
im running 63 SS seats and console(armrest) in my 56...the console was no problem,,on the seat risers,i had to modify the inner track if i remeber correctly
I put 64 pontiac seats in my 55 chevy, it was a huge pain in the ass making the brackets...but fortunately chevy and pontiacs are different! anyways, plan on some fab work to make brackets that will put the seats level. also spend some time getting them in the right place so it's comfy to drive, so you feel "right" with your feet on the pedals, etc.
What ever you do, just make sure you bolt those seats down really good!!!! Chevy is know for there parts falling off so keep an eye on them.
No photos but back in the 60's the cool setup in this area was 63/64 SS interior,,,,seats, console, even the door panels,,,as I remember they looked great. HRP
64 buckets in 55 post. I used 1 5/8" Unistrut on both sides facing up for a spacer. It required a piece of 1 x 2 channel under the unistrut on one side (channel and strut back to back) of the seat. I used 1/2" bolts with spring nuts into the strut to hold the seat. The struts were bolted to the floor independent of the seat. Put sheet metal with a rolled edge (I used an old metal shelf) from the floor in the rear up to the top of the strut. Without the seat in place you have a three sided box that can be carpeted all the way up the sides and under the seat. The strut contains the spring nuts facing upward.
Perfect timing, I have been scrounging around for a stock bench for my 55 post. glmarkie, please post some pics of the interior once you get it put in. thanx, xtra
Sorry Xtra but I already sold the bench seats. I'll let you know if I find any others for sale. And I'll be sure to post pics of the interior once I'm finished. Thanks...
