I was talking to John Shoemaker, he has built 140 dragsters, he is out of Sacromento, Calif., at the HotRodarama. I was telling him the need for Certifide nostalgia dragster. After some talking he agreed to built 10 frames only, That would be 130 or 135"" long, 19 or 20 " wide and fit a driver up to 6'2". It would have torsion bar tube in front and vertical bar to bolt the rear end. It would have double hoop and all required cross supports. It could be certifide for top Fuel if wanted. He did not have a price off the top of his head, but said you get 10 people interested and call me next week. So thats the deal, What is the interest?
They have an old Shoemaker frame at the So Cal Speedshop, it's probably going to be built on an episode of Hard Shine, just speculation.
Just like everyone else says... Price talks.... I've been thinking about building one but if I could purchase a roller for not a whole lot more than the parts - well it's a no-brainer...
I just hope the proportions are closer to the real deal as opposed to the new Nostalgia T/F cars where the driver sits WAY UP in the air, they are kind of goofy. Quick as snot, but goofy....
Ive been thinking of building a nostalgia dragster with one of my buddies. Id like to see the price also.
If anyone is interested we can do that sort of stuff here in the midwest too. I have several late model front motor cars out in the field now and would love to do some traditional 60's style cars. I have a 1969 Don Long car of my own if anyone wants a duplicate of that style and either Dragmaster or Ch***is Research clones would be easy too. We could also do a traditional altered as we still have the wrecked Winged Express frame at the shop after cloning it for Mousie and Mike. Although a couple of the cars pictured have flat top 6 point roll cages we much prefer to do the single bend 5 point style. Roo
Looks like we have some interest. I will be talking with John Shoemaker soon.He is off racing this week , I'll ask about the price and a discription or drawing of frame . He had a plan of a nostagia look with the double hoop roll cage. Maybe we could get a Hamb relay going for delivery.
John lives 15 minutes from me. I am interested - put me on the list! Prices? Maybe I can get a local guy discount...?
I have had a couple of enquiries through the board re new frames. Our current stuff is designed for guys who want to run as quick as six seconds and are all NHRA legal. We are thinking of doing a real retro sixties type frame and would like some input. Who wants to only run at HAMB drags type events with a car like Brian's Zorba's Ghost and who would rather have a car that would certify to run anywhere? If there is enough interest we would set the jig up and build a few frames. Also who would simply want a welded frame and who would rather have a roller. Time really is money in this day and age and the more we do the higher the cost. The tubing part of the deal is relatively cheap but if we build a frame out of 4130 you can't add brackets with a MIG welder in your garage. Any and all input will be appreciated. Roo
I have just talked with John Shoemaker, He has read this thread and has seen the response, he wants to know what people would expect to pay. He has teamed up with Kent Fuller, and Kent wants to add the front end and rearends also. these would be high quality, nostagia looking, 4130, NHRA legal 6 sec frames. He does not want to be in a bidding war against other people that have responded to this thread. Either post your answer and send a PM. Prices would be from Sacromento, Calif. Thanks Howard
BTTT..... Roo...I'd be interested. If I were to build one, I'd prefer to start with a nice, bare frame that I could add my own gear to, or maybe a partial roller, one that had front and rear axles but no tires/wheels. I'd also want one that was accurate to the 60's, Ch***is Research, Dragmasters, etc....All the extra bars needed for certification RUINS the look and the feel of a REAL, old school dragster....I'd want to get that same feeling the guys back then had, with the same equipment..... Today's cars are too WATERED down......
