I need some info on ways to restore my steering wheel, how should i fill the cracks? What will stick and what won't? THANX guys I got the interior looking pretty good and now the wheel stands out like a black eye.
Some of the locals use body filler before priming and painting. However, I've noticed that visible hairline cracks eventually surface. Maybe someone knows a better application that will minimize the cracks?
i tried painting mine with krilon fusion paint for plastic, didnt stick worth ****, maybe my wheel is not plastic?, 1945 gmc, i tried filling the crack with 5min epoxy, that just fell off.
before you paint plastic you should scuff it with 3M pads, then paint. i told a guy to scuff his plastic parts on his car so i helped him do his hubcaps. paint stuck. he came back later and told me he tried painting his emblems and it flaked off, then he told me he remembered the time we scuffed his wheels so he did so. the paint stuck that time. couldnt help but say i told him so.
Here's exactly what you need. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112967 I did mine following the steps in this tech and it came out great.
