I've been without my Merc for 45 days and it is killing me. So I'm kinda like
the guy that walks around at car show with pictures of his rides. Man does it suck!! We are in the process of removing 15years and 105k miles of road
rash'd bondo off of my Merc. I was shocked that it wasn't worse then it was. Ralph Schindel is blessing me with his talent and when we are through the Merc will not be the same. We've decided to convert the Merc into a two
door and cut away the left over nose problem that the Merc had. Also I'll be
doing away with my late model dash and drop in a '53 Merc dash. Still working on ideas for the skirts, if you have any suggestions please let me know. We will have it done before next years SK500, I cannot wait

For a sneak peek Check out the photoshop.

    What do ya think??

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Looks good to me though it's different to have a chopped 4 door I've yet to see one that I didn't think would look better with 2.

Left over nose problem reads funny. :)

I sure would like to see that upper rear corner of your fender skirts rounded off, not so sharp a corner. You've got that unique curve in the body crease right above it, would be nice if the curves matched some.

I've always liked the idea that mine was different because it was a chopped
4dr. This was something that wasn't planned. Ralph had the idea and after
playing with the computer, I could not believe the difference it made. The
other kool thing is it will be more stable with just the two doors. When the Merc was originally built they removed the center post so it has that new
club cab pickup look. Kool idea but at car shows all the doors are shut anyway.

    Thanks Robin

The nose thing Is kinda hard to explain without sounding goofy. I like your idea rounding out the back of the skirt to match the body crease. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Doug Next year when we get them back on the road, people are going to have a tuff time getting us out of them. The Spectacular was awesome but going home to nothing kind burst the bubble.

No we are leaving the roof alone. Just extending the front two doors back a few inches and welding the back doors shut.

  11. you might think of making it a hardtop as that rear door needs a bit of work to flow smoothly because the chrome trim really shows its origins.

  12. How'z about doing 1 door on the driver side & 2 doors on the pass. side. Just a '70's Kustom thing.

    Hey Good Idea!!
It could be a tribute to my old three door '70 Suburban
    that I used to own.

MIck...make the skirts flow, front and back, just like the body sculpture line you already have...match the front edge to the rear edge, add a couple of Nite Prowlers Merc teeth to the lowered opening and you've got it...

    Personally...I'd leave it a four-door...

Nope not this one .... Atleast this is my story. Ha, ha, ha.... Thank God
those days are over. I've owned the Merc for over ten years and it has
gone through some changes. Here is the steps that the Merc has been through. The first picture was the condition when I bought the
Merc. Needless to say the front wheels were removed immediately.

I thought about that and still battle with the idea. When I look at it on the
computer I think I'll improve the lines by 2 dr'n it. Also the car will be more
stable with the back doors removed.

Very Kool Thanks for the quickie Looks like it is going to be a 2 dr.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

  26. most tastefull thing you did was get rid of the 280z headlights. looking good, i did the same conversion with my 51 (moredoor morphed into a two) not much work really if you use a two door donor shell. i got one out of michigan that was totally gone. i hated cutting up anouther merc but it was all you could do with this one. the b pillers are different on a 2 door than the moredoor so thats the way i wanted to go that way if some ass hits the merc i have to find a 2 door plug rather than a set of moredoor plugs. still interested on the taillights on your merc. cut down 55 packard?????

Thanks Bob, couldn't have said it better myself.:)

  28. I think the car's come a long way. The front end was hidius. Now it looks awsome. I'm sure the rest of the metamorphosis will be captivating. Keep the pic's coming.

  29. Love the skirt idea! Makes it seem longer. Have you considered slanting the B-pillar? In the pic with the longer skirts,a slanted B-piller would compliment the slant of the skirt. Don't you think?

  30. straykatkustoms,
if you haven't done away with the 4drs yet check this out, one of my favorite cars and chops.

sorry man I gotta be on Badbob's side this time. your a tard.
Everyone uses photoshop to visualize their project, without it you've just got a shitty drawing and an idea. Most people's ideas are not always 100 percent great. It's cheap to photoshop stuff in 10 mins than spend hours actually doing something only to get s shitty result and be defensive about it at a carshow on how that was your vision. People here will help you with some creative criticism
BTW I looked at your 17 posts you have nothing good to say or imput, won't you just lurk a while.
