I am making plans for the HAMB Drags Reliability Run. I have never been on reliability run, however each time I have been out on the road in a hot rod it is like reliability run. I do like to keep things simple. Is this something that needs to be a compe***ion or should we just award a hard luck trophy judged on who has bad luck? What other procedures do we need to address? Does each car need to be labeled with a number? I would appreciate any input. John
I'm so ignorant about this subject I won't be any help at all, but I'm definitely interested in participating.
Hope this helps. This is the stages to go through organising this years Flathead Meltdown Reliability Run here in the UK... Step 1. Book the pub, hoping they've forgiven you for locking the landlord in the cellar last year. Step 2. In the depths of winter, start looking for a decent destination or two. Step 3. Look into all the interesting roads that lead there. Remember that NO-ONE is local or can follow road signs. If there were any. And turns across traffic or straight over crossroads are a sure way to break "the pack". Step 4. Panic. There's no roads like that between here and there. Step 5. Panic again as you hear back from your destination to say "well, I'll be 91 by then, but let's be positive..." Step 6. Contact everyone to let them now it's on - and give a cut-off date for entries. Step 7. Panic again when the cut-off date approaches, pub wants numbers and only a dozen or so have replied. Step 8. Start going out on the route noting down the turns at each junction. Get stuck in a foot deep soft sand road miles from nowhere. Realise the route is hundreds of miles long and will need shortening if it's ever going to take just one day... Step 9. Pay the pub up front for the 50 people who have ***ured you they're coming. Realise that you've also not heard from the musicians who also insisted they were coming. Step 10. Go to work on the Friday knowing that people are already travelling to your event imagining it's all planned out. And it's raining. Well? How was it? Went like a charm. Don't know what all the fuss was about. No compe***ion, no trophies, just pick some interesting roads, give 'em a map they can't understand and hope for the best! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185086&showall=1 this years, http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i66/meltdownRR/RR-2007/?start=all last years, http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i66/meltdownRR/?start=all
Since we are going to the drag strip earlier in the day than in the recent past, I have decided to cancel the reliability run. I have organized the cruises in the past to fill in some of the day before we went to the strip but there is no need to do that this year with the earlier start. I would rather be at the drag strip anyway. After all it is the HAMB Drags. See ya soon John
Yeah, that's a good plan. Just driving the 800 miles to get there should prove (or not) the reliability of the Plymouth.
What if the run was shifted to Friday? If some folks wanted to go to the Springfield swap meet, it could be routed around old Route 66, instead of the straight shot of I-44. If several were interested, I could plan the trip. I'm from Southwest Missouri I don't think you'd get lost.
I am at Louisville. I will be home Monday and I will lay out a Route 66 run to Springfield from the host hotel and I will make note of some points of intrest. I will bring this information to the Ramda Thursday night and I will leave a few copies at the hotel desk if you do not get one from me that evening. The group should be able to form up and make the run. I plan to be at the swap meet early. John
yeah, i was gonna say, everyday I make it to my destination I'm releived she made it thru another reliability run.
We would be interested in a run on Friday around Route 66 even though we aren't interested in going to the Swap Meet (no money) we will still tag along on the run. Maybe if there are others not interested in the swap meet would could stop for lunch and then head back to Joplin?
Hay All Im coming from the opposite direction Early friday Morning to the swap-meet if you where going to get togeather for lunch or somthing or leave to go back to Joplin at a certain time and place i would enjoy tagging along for the return trip to get off the freeway and see more of the local places, ***uming i get my beast runing (HAHAHA youll see tomarrow found it yesturday & 2 weeks to get it road ready...no pressure)
Hehe thanks Dirty It aint that impressive and is pushing our age limit on stuff but its a neat little find and is going to be a Daily driver so i jst hope no one gives me to much grief for it pictures tonight
I'm In On A Run To The Swap Meet. I've Got 4:11's So I'll Be Wipin Up The Rear, Unless We Stop Then I'll Take A Quick Look At The Front And Watch Everyone Go By As I Return To The Rear. Reggie
Thanks for the honest (and very comical) advice. I'm looking to do one here in Auckland, NZ and you have described perfectly how I'm guessing I will feel with the organizing side of it all. I guess as long as they drive home saying to themselves "Can't wait for next year", then it's mission accomplished.
It is interesting that this thread came up. I actually thought about doing something like this again this year. I would like to know if anyone would like to do a little run on route 66? John
I am unable to do it on Sunday. After a late night at the drags and some busy days leading up to that weekend, I think I will need a day off. John
Funny about the time warp. I was going to say "Animal got his Plymouth back after he sold it and shipped it to Europe???" Rodshop
My boy and I are going to do our own 'reliabilty run' in the '33. Leaving Dallas the Sat. prior, and running to Chicago, then back to Joplin via. Route 66. He may be sick and tired of riding with my, by then. Bigken
