I was working on a project earlier this week and was surprised to see that there has been very little work done to catalog the efforts of the early pencileers. Searc...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
My dad and older brothers, tho artists, didn't save any of the old stuff. Might have been due to the real threat of 7 boys (including dad) having endless stacks of stuff filling up the living space w/ no room left in the house for the people who live there. I'll be checking back on this post often, as I'd love to relive some of those old drawings and I'll add what I'm able to find. Cheers Ryan! Another great 'concept'!
These are great, I was just reading an article about Gus Maanum a magazine (can't remember which one, Rodders Journal maybe). I used to go to the Chimmney Rock Hillclimb every year and while it was a sports car event, it had alot of the same type of illustrations in the programs. Probably inspired by men like **** Teague.
does anybody out there have any harry bentley bradley sketches? I always admired his pencil work and how he would figure out how things were contsructed through his sketches (his exploded view sketches are amazing). Ive tried looking on the web for examples of his work but come up with very little. Anybody got anything?
i dont have all the pages scanned and have posted these here before, ****tt i picked this up a year ago off a hamb dudes dad at the Fathers Day show, he has some extremely nice pieces to his credit. i have half of the sketches scanned and will be giving booklets to friends for the holidays
Unfortunatly my early sketches were ripped out my hands my my math teacher and my knuckles are still smarting . Great sketches.
Sorry Ryan...I misread the Journal entry......thought you were looking for member's early sketches.......I'm not that old......
This isn't as old, but it's a great inspiration to me and i think it fits.. I've also shared his work before. Bob Freeman
These are some of the small drawings from the ads of the March 1952 issue of "Speed age" No doubt you've seen some of the before but I love these little things that are in the margins of old mags.
Here are a set of 10 Gus Maanum sketches "A Selection of 10 Outstanding S.C.T.A. Cars" "Drawn In Action". Is this what your looking for? I've owned them for a number of years now. I couldn't get them to upload they are to big, what can I do? BUMMER!
I Tried To Buy Aset Of The Gus Pictures In Action About 10 Years Ago On Ebay. At The Time I Didnt Know What They Were I Just Thought They Were Neat As Hell. The Made Over 200.00 I Still Regret No Buying Them. There Is A Whole Lot Of Inspiration The His Art
For Hot Rod Cutaways go here www.users.bigpond.com/designjp/hotrodmags.html I've got more to add when I get some time.
These are all pencil drawings done in high school 1956-57. Sadly, they're pretty badly stained and faded after 50 years. I never had Maanum's or Teague's flair for action, but I'm still proud of these.
Should I post all the CT News covers I have? This is October 1947, Chuck Moore sketched Jack Calori's 124MPH roadster

These are really nice posts! I'd like to see more of this type of artwork! Maybe even as a regular feature. My 2 cents only!
This is such a cool thread... but within it lies an even better one. LETS SEE YOUR HIGH SCHOOL CAR FANTASY SKETCHES!
WOW! If these are yours, you should be posting to the Fridat Art Threads. Unbelievable work for the age that you were back then. I used to draw like that but for some reason I was into semi trucks back then... what a waste of time. Hey, I was young and dumb. Vance
I love the "street machine- completely equipped for legal operation on California streets". Looks like a nice sensible car! Do kids today still dream this big?
I really dig this post...I didn't have any "sketches" so I put up this vintage rendering...Thanx for sharin'....
Sure, they're mine, and there are at least 20 more -- although I picked my favorites. Never occurred to me to post them until Ryan's call for "early pencil sketches". Thanks for the kind words!
